I wonder how many people on this board have ended up having exactly the same tone by buying hype amps/basses/cabs? I can't imagine the Sadowsky/LMII/NV610 tone (among so many others) is all that uncommon in this circle. Glad you're happy though.

Hmmm, thats a good point but how many Ampeg owners also get the same tone. After all, there is a lot of mention of amps "not sounding like an ampeg" etc that to me it says the same thing as you are saying about MB.

Honestly, and speaking in complete market generalizations, I can't figure out why everyone likes them so much. They're just "okay" in my book. Nothing special, and the tone is rather vanilla. The only thing the MB heads have going for them IMO is "small", and when the novelty of that wears off, what do they have to offer? Not much me methinks. If the same MB tone was in a normal size head with a normal sized weight, they'd be rather ordinary. So, it's going to be hard for them to keep the special place they have now. That's all IMHO.

That said, I'm glad many people are happy with them, really I am. I just wonder how long it's going to last.

For me, my rig is my onstage monitor - we have good PA support at all gigs. So wilst there are better amps out there, is is excellent value for money, easy to transport, and sounds very good - not the best, sure, but good enough for me to hear what I am up to.

I purchased a Backline 600 about a mounth ago and the input jack went out at a gig on Thursday Night. So I marched back into the local GC yesterday to exchange it and asked about Markbass (which our GC doesn't carry) and they called the Chicago store. They gave me credit on the BL600 and I will be receiving a New LMII on Tuesday. I have never even seen one in person and I don't usually shop sight unseen. But what the heck. I play Fender P's or J's with flatwounds - so I'm thinking that I'll be dealing with the VLE knob a little. Next gig is next weekend. I have all this week to try and dial it in.

you mean like running a warwick through a GK? That would really be original sounding.

The VLE sounds much clearer/different to my ears than rolling off your traditional fender j/p tone knob. I much prefer the VLE.

that's not the case with my sadowsky and its vtc. neither one is "better" but turning up the vle yields a muffled tone by comparison.

I played a gig the other night (first one with LMII) fully expecting to use the VLE, but I found it unnecessary. With my schroe 1212R + Fender P (NP4 pups) and flats it sounded great. I think the wooden stage added to the mojo.
