Quite excited! I recorded both these songs for my band, I played guitar and bass on one, just bass on the other. Programmed the drums myself, and my synth guy came over and did the synth.

Nice stuff. Kind of hard core metal meets 80's retro.

Doesn't sound 80s at all to me and I listen to a bunch of retro and nu-retro (made recently, but sounds like it pre-90s) stuff. No offense of course, but I get the feeling that the folks saying it sounds 80s haven't listened to much power/prog/black/symphonic/gothic metal. Synths have been in all kinds of heavy stuff for ages. Sounds much more like it's bridging the gap between prog and a straight forward heavy metal. Reminds me a lot of the Black Mages, who I totally love. Nice to hear some good stuff posted around this forum for a change :D.

And no offence taken. You'd be right for me at least that I haven't listened to a lot of "modern" metal. But I don't think that changes anything. The fact that a lot of other bands are inspired by retro sounds doesn't make it not retro :)

You can't just say "pre 90s" with keyboards...there are distinct sounds from distinct eras. Compare the links i posted earlier to these, the sounds are quite different:

It's all pretty simple here...

For my bass; just a Behringer Bass V-Amp plugged straight into the computer. Axe: Ibanez SR406

Guitar, through the V-Amp then I used Guitar Rig 5 (program) for the tone. Axe: Cort EVL K5 (with new Dunlop super heavy strings (wow!))

Programmed the drums using ezdrummer's Drumkit from hell. (good but not much variation, I'd suggest BFD)

Synths; Korg Electribe EMX.

All recorded with Cubase 5.

So apart from the computer, just the V-Amp and Electribe for synths, and you could easily do without these too.
