my first time to record.. help!=)

honestly I'm really clueless about recording.. I always thought that you just need an amp then a microphone then a (camorder if you want to see yourself) then that's it. but when i tried it there's a lot of noise.. I'm just wondering how people can record with clean bass sound while jamming with their favorite music. what do I need to use? and if you can give me the cheapest it would be better. ( a list of what i need)

I've got an AMD athlon core duo processor and a 2GB RAM..

You need a DI box, amp modeling software, and a DAW. You can record your bass track, and then blend it with whatever you want - CDs, backing tracks, other instruments, etc. If you are filming @ the same time, you can use the finished audio in a video editor to replace the crappy camcorder sound, or blend those two audio sources. I bought an all-in-one package from GC about a year ago for around $130. Sessions I/O box, Guitar Rig 3, Cubase LE, and Kore Player / Pop Drums. Outstanding value, easy to use. If you puter already has a really low latency soundcard, you can plug your bass directly in (using an adapter) to the soundcard. Freeware / Shareware versions of all the above software are available. As well, once you`re plugged in, how are you gonna apply effects to your tracks ? There are alot of free vst plugins out there, but most of the ones I tried are not really good. As far as a DI box selection, do you need a phantom-powered mic jack ? MIDI input ? These questions will surface once you start your projects. That headset mic for vocals ??? No way.
