My frets are to long!

So I just picked up my GSR 206 today and the frets are over the end and was curious if i could fix them myself. I just need to get rid of just a tiny bit, I have the service plan that'll help me fix it, but i wanted it tonight and was wondering if i could just fix it myself either by filing or moving the whole fret upwards.

Over the end of the fretboard? If so, you could just file them down yourself assuming it isn't an outrageous amount.

yea, i just need to get it down to the end of the fret board, would one of those straight nail files work?

A nail file will not do anything to a metal fret. You need a rasp, or a metal file. You can screw your fretboard up by doing it yourself, so I recommend you just return it and get another.

Go to harbour freight tools you can get a 12 pack of mini files for $3 then carefully file them till they dont overlap the fretboard. Use masking tape around the fret to prevent damaging the neck if you slip.

Moving them? If they're poking out over the edge of the fretboard what do you think moving them is going to solve? Is it only poking on one side?

Take it to a qualified tech. It's a simple fix that is not expensive and it can be done in a few minutes.

Debating what? I'm curious to know what you mean by moving the frets because if this is something you attempt to do yourself and you don't understand what you need to do, you will screw up the fret job and need to pay for work anyway.

i got coverage, i just dont have a ride out there everyday, but i think i meant by movin it was possibly pulling the frets up with say a pair of pliers

I still don't understand why you'd ever want to do that if they are just poking past the side of the neck a little bit.

frets arent moveable and able to be re set.. They have little edges like fish hooks that dig into the wood. Those hooks will take chunks out of the fretboard if you arent properly trained in removing them.

Perhaps where the bass was the humidity is so low that the neck has shrunk. Before doing this job take to a tech. The tech may recommend you place it in a 50% humidity for a bit and see if all come to normal. If you shorten them now then when the neck gets right they will be recessed.
