My friend got mugged this weekend

Are you involved in it? If so, how does it differ from weightlifting (the sport). Its not clear from the two wiki articles as the powerlifting one indicates it resembles weighlifting, but the weightlifting one says they are different.

I've done some powerlifting... the difference is that "weightlifting" aka olympic weightlifting uses the clean and jerk, clean and press, snatch, etc. whereas powerlifting is squat, bench, and deadlift.

In comparison with powerlifting which tests limit strength (with or without lifting aids), weightlifting tests ballistic limits (explosive strength) with smaller weights such that the lifts must be executed more quickly and with more mobility because of a greater range of motion during the lifts.

I'm just confused at the whole situation... It's illegal for felons to own weapons... maybe the mugger was an off duty cop?

Just in case it isn't - surely the fact that this person was mugging your friend indicates that he has no regard for the law. And if you mean previously convicted felons, then:

a) Maybe he hasn't been caught yet
b) Maybe he has friends who can get guns illegally

So a friend of mine was walking a girl home in a shady part of town and on his way back someone approached him and demanded his wallet... he grabbed the guys arm and was about to beat his ass (he's a powerlifter) when the guy put a gun to his head and told him to let go. Needless to say he surrendered his wallet, and followed the assailant's commands to walk away without turning around.

I'm just confused at the whole situation... It's illegal for felons to own weapons, and illegal for civilians (in this state) to carry them outside of their home or car. I mean, maybe the mugger was an off duty cop? That has to be it... or maybe he had a non-resident CCW license from another state and he forgot that it's illegal to carry in Illinois...

It would have been sweet if my friend had a knife and stabbed the guy in the neck.

Who is this girl? Was it someone your friend just met? If so, he was set up.
Felons dont carry Concealed Firearms Licenses. Convicted Felons cannot legally obtain one.
I doubt your friend was mugged by a cop.
If your friend happened to stab the guy in the neck to retaliate the mugging, he could be prosecuted. If he pulled out the knife during the mugging, he would have been pretty stupid.

Loneliness has followed me my whole life. Everywhere. In bars, in cars, sidewalks, stores, everywhere. There's no escape. I'm God's lonely man... June 8th. My life has taken another turn again. To those who missed it, the OP fully understands the laws of concealed carry. He was making a point about gun control not being effective against crime. Some people got it, others didn't.
