Is there any way of getting the fan quieter?
Got a FBS700 today to use with a double bass and using a mic in a little studio as I do would not be possible

It’d be pricy to send it from Norway to USA and back.
Anyway I can do it myself?
Thinking about a switch so it can be switched off for studio/low volume if that is ok

You certainly could remove the fan wire (clearly labeled) or add a switch. For studio (low stress use) the amp should remain warm but not hot.

I currently play a Pedulla Thunderbass and a Rapture (both 5 strings) through a small Eden WT. Mostly a Jamerson style player as opposed to Mark King or Larry Graham.

I play a mix of gigs, mostly, smaller, low volume. If I play a bigger gig, there is a sound company for FOH, so I am just covering stage volume.

I'll jump in. My question is what cabinet are you using? I think 300W RMS is plenty of power for stage, especially at lower volumes, and a good cabinet will enhance the head's capabilities. Also, my limited understanding is that not all 300 watt ratings are equal. Some mfgs measure at different THD levels, so one amp may end up being louder than the next. The good news is most respected companies don't tend to inflate their power ratings.

Generally the US is ok with >300 watts but there are countries within Asia, Middle East, Africa and Europe (outside the EU).

On a larger bridged amp it’s possible to see +/-100V peak voltage on each terminal with respect to ground, so yes it can give quite a shock if the output plug is 1/4” and you touch the barrel. Also, if a cable with a grounded plug touches the speaker plug, damage can result.

Best engineering practice dictates the use of touch proof connections in this application. This is also the general perspective of every test lab I have worked with.

It doesn’t mean that it’s the only way to do it, but it may limit the countries that the amps may be sold in. Since the products I design are intended to be available world wide, this is why we use SpeakOn only connectors (not combo jacks) on the Subway amps.

Hope this helps explain the SpeakOn versus 1/4” conundrum that manufacturers face.

It may not circumvent a particular regulation but is covering the exposed barrel of a 1/4”plug with insulating heat shrink a worthwhile hillbilly fix? Or would an exposed metal jack plate or amp case negate this?

IMO, it's certainly a worthwhile "fix", but yes, the same issue would apply to a metal jack plate if the jack doesn't us an insulating bushing or is of the insulating type.

I typically use a single 12” cabinet. I also have a 2x10 but I rarely use it.

I haven't bought the cabinet yet, but it will either be a fuchs 12" cabinet or a similarly priced cabinet.

Received the Fuchs 112 yesterday and played through it for about an hour. Didn’t push hard, but first impressions are consistent with how it’s marketed. It’s light, tight, warm, punchy and capable of loud within reason for its size and weight. I don’t find the treble response to be lacking whatsoever without a tweeter. Again it was marketed as such, but now that I’ve experienced it first hand, treble is there. Not overly sizzle, which works for me, stays along the tight punch thing. This is the ceramic version. Using it primarily EB fretless, digging it. If I want or need more volume, I imagine a second can makes sense.

Sounds like you're happy. That's good news. These cabs appear to be extremely well built and I'd imagine they'd be tight and punchy.
Glad they have enough treble response.

I haven’t weighed it, but specs state 28lbs. Sounds fair. If I didn’t read it, I would have thought a tad lighter…either way, an easy schlep.

Just noticed this post. It's not "fan noise", but rather venturi noise (the air passing around the vent slot and fan body) causing the rushing sound.

There is a fan gasket we now use. If you e-mail tech support we can mail you one. Takes ten minutes with a screwdriver to install. It's in all the new production amps now.
