My future rig

Ok i've been posting some questions out there and have come up with a pretty nice rig and here it is. A Gallien Krueger Backline 600 as a preamp to a 1001rb all powering a 4x10 and 1x15 RBH stack and a 8x10 NEO. What do you guys think would it be a waste of money, do you think everything would last very long? Suggestion and advice would be helpful:)

I would suggest spending a little more time with the 1001RB. It sounds a hell of a lot better than those Backlines brother. As for using a preamp with the 1001, there are many better, cheaper and infinitely more portable options, such as a VT pedal or any number of other preamps.

Yeah i know the only reason i was gonna use the BL is because i already have one and love the tinny sound i'm getting from it and just wanted to add a real nice growly sound to my tone and if i didnt like it i'd just trade it in for an actual preamp

Well, all bass players are a little nutty I think. If it works for you, great.;)

+1. Not sure why a bass player would want "tinny" for a sound, but hey... I come from a funk and Motown background where you've gotta have boo-tay! If it's your thing, it's your thing.

Personally, if I were to go out and buy a new amp TODAY, it'd probably be the new GK Fusion 550. It's got everything from rockhouse grind to old school thump, with saveable presets and motorized knobs for that extra level of "ooooo and ahhh." And good Lord it's loud too! I'm all set for big amps though. Next amp on my list is the Micro VR. ;)

5sg.

As already stated - why use an "entry level/beginner" head to preamp a pro level head ?

Just makes no sense. There are other ways to get a good tone without carrying 2 heads.

Also, you have already been told in other threads that the 1X15/4X10 pairing is not that great.

If your going to keep asking questions in different threads till you get the answer/validation you want, why bother asking - just do it.

I was waiting for someone to mention this but in the OP you say you're planning on using the backline as just a preamp and the 1001rb as a power amp to power the 410/115 and 810. The 1001rb only goes down to 4ohms and you're looking at a 2ohm load. Unless you're planning on powering one stack with the backline and the other with the 1001rb(which will make one stack louder then the other) it wont work. You'd be better off getting a actual power amp for everything.

On the subject of GK, I played a gig last week with a GK stack as backline and it was great. There were two heads in a rack on top of a 15 and a 4x10. It was a big outdoor show. You won't need that many cabs! This stack sounded HUGE! This was the first time in a long time I played a GK rig. I enjoyed it immensely. :)
My advise to you is to try your two-head idea with the 15 ane 4x10 stack. Use one head for each cab. Then you can tweak the EQ for each cab and get a great sound! You'll have to figure out where to get your send to the mains which would be your favorite preamp out or a DI if you have one you like.

That is actually not a bad idea so then i also won't have to worry about blowin the 15 out:)

I hate to jump on the train here, but both of the aforementioned ideas seem kind of silly. The 1001rbII (and don't forget the 700rbII) are top notch amplifiers that earned their high regard for their signature eq (in addition to their reliability, price point etc.)

It really boils down to the sound you're seeking and how loud you plan on playing. Personally, I would get the 700rbII and a 410rbh if I always looking for volume and tonal versatility. Reason for choosing the 700rbII over the 1001rbII? I personally like the growl these heads give off when they are pushed. If you seek more headroom (cleaner, modern tone at higher volumes) the 1001rb will do just fine. No bi-amping or silly preamp swapping necessary.
