My husband died and left a Pensa...

Please accept my condolences for your loss.

As mentioned above, please consider a school music program for a donation. Your husband, if he was anything like me at all, would be thrilled to know that his collection went to inspiring another generation of players. Also, kids that are in a high school music program are less likely to just throw it under the bed and forget about it.

You have done a very wise thing by asking your questions here. The answers have been absolutely on the mark. Good luck to you & your son. Sorry you had to lose your favorite bassist.Maybe the boy can be your new favorite player.

My condolences and prayers are with you and your young family......loosing aloved one, especially a father and husband can be a very traumatic thing indeed.....you seem to have a good level head on your shoulders which will help you through this trying time....I have lost quite a few people I dearly love (a girlfriend, my sister, my father etc).....so I know all of the "unwelcomed" work you have ahead of you.....

as for the basses, guitars, etc....I agree we can assist with some ballparks, but, as said previously, I would have the collection appraised by a reputable dealer....the great people here can pint you in the right direction....

we really are a caring bunch of schmucks......regrdless of what you might see in some of the forums....

my deepest condolences on your loss.

if you wish to put together a list of the instruments your husband had, we could help you find the ones that have the most value, would be the biggest "keepers" and the biggest potential sellers now.

a big element in value is condition, so pics would certainly help.

also, if you would like to keep this private, there are a lot of trustworthy tb'ers in your area that could maybe point you in the direction of a professional appraiser who could give you something official.

Thanks so much for your kind words... I happen to have a very soft spot in my heart for you bassists, so I will reach out if need be. He left a couple of instruments to his friends, so I have to eventually find those in this house and then take it from there.

My kids will definitely learn to play the guitar and bass, among other things...

I'm glad I found you guys, kinda makes me feel closer to him. He'd love that I'm here. :)

Condolences on your loss. I can't add much to the sage advice given so far.

I really don't want to sell any of them, but I may give some of them away (to family, friends). At this point, I wish I could keep every single one of them. I'll see if I can get some photos up of the Pensa...I have a feeling I'm going to keep it either way though, for some reason I believe it held a special place in his heart, though in the past few years he didn't necessarily play it that much---but he was doing a lot of diaper changes and playground runs, so that may have been the reason why

I have thought of what my wife should do with my gear if I were to die first and there is my #1 bass that I would want her to keep.
Reason is simple that is the one tangible item of mine with the most of my soul in it. If that Pensa was your husband's #1 then that is the one you should keep and perhaps pass on to your children.

I'm very sorry for yor loss and I send my condolences to your family.

im sorry im not much help for getting prices on basses but my advice would be to keep everything and just let your kids learn music using the instruments their father loved and took so much care of. Music can bring out the deepest emotions in people and help them shine in their best light, and im sure your kids would love to have such a nice collection of basses/guitars to choose from, and maybe you could learn to play? :)

It's been said so many times, but still, my sincere condolences on your husband's passing. Nothing really prepares us for the unexpected passing of a loved one.

I must concur on the thought that if the Pensa was your husband's go-to, most favorite bass...please don't sell it...it is worth far more, IMHO, as a legacy to your children's father. It is priceless.

Thank you for finding TalkBass. We are a very large community that cares for each and every bassist...and those who love them.

My father was an orchestra leader and played saxophone.

He passed in 1984..

he loved that saxophone and it still sits in our home..
its very valuable Selmer...

we will never part with it because he put his heart and soul into playing that instrument and we are hoping that one of the grandchildren or great grandchildren will pick it up one day...
