Could someone tell me approximately the value of it? I know it's a custom and I have a young son and am thinking it would be wise to hold onto it for him and not sell it. He had a LOT of bass guitars and guitars and we won't have room for them all--but seeing the word "custom" on it made me think it was probably something worth keeping. I couldn't find a price on the net anywhere and figured thiis might be the place to come and ask....thanks. Oh, and I'm not looking for a specific price, just ballpark...tks.

My condolences. It might be worth in the $2,000 ballpark, I'm guessing; if you are able to post a photo of it, more knowledgeable persons than me can give you a more accurate estimate.

As a note, 'custom' instruments don't usually have a great resale value. You say you have a number of instruments, and you may be surprised at the premium some 'not so special' looking instruments may sell for.
My real advice is, before you think about selling any instruments, have a good idea of the street value of the instrument, and keep in mind that the year, model and condition are all important. Some 20+ year old basses are now worth much more than when they were sold and what new versions may sell for. Be careful.
I have nightmares of my family selling off my stuff should I move to the great beyond.

Have it all looked at by a knowledgeable person, as others have said there are some real surprises in value, you don't want to get taken by an unethical shop/person.

Definitely find someone to appraise the instruments. I have a 100 dollar bass that says "custom handmade" on it. There might be something very ordinary, even beat up looking, that's worth a fortune. Sorry for your loss and good luck.

If it's possible, you might want to take pictures and descriptions and post them here. It's more likely that you will be treated fairly when there's a whole forum of second opinions. It would be horrible to get taken by someone who abuses their knowledge.

If your husband had a bass that looks ratty, but says Fender on it, be sure to get it properly evaluated by a trusted resource.
Checking with this forum is probably the best thing you could've done. Give us a list of what you have, and we can tell you what we think. There's not a person here I know of who would try and take advantage. For me, as a father, I would want my son to have something very special, and that may or may not be something of monetary value.
Please let us know other details as well, such as, which were his favorites, or if he got them from someone special, or things like that.
Don't forget nephews, and nieces - and daughters for that matter as well.

I agree with everyone here, get the photo's up, get the instruments appraised, and look out for sharks, they are everywhere. If you are not sure of anything, just ask here, there are hundreds of people that will help you & point you in the right direction.

I know there's a fairly average japanese brand that label their basses as custom. or theres things like the fender custom shop which fetch and arm and a leg.
If it's a custom made bass then it's worth simply what someone is willing to pay for it and has no strict value. (may go for several thousand or acouple of hundred.) in which case ebay would be your best bet. Even then you'd be better off getting as much info as possible about the bass so as to fetch the best price. there are plenty of knowledgable people around here that are very helpful

Pensa are great basses. Currently on my "i really want this" list
But, they're worth 2,000-2,500 depending on the model, age, condition, etc etc.
If you could post pictures of it, that'd be fantastic.

If I were you I'd take all the basses to an appraiser (a reputable one) and see what they're worth. In the NY area, Mandolin Brothers is a good bet.

As others have stated, this is the absolute right place for information., We do a lot of kidding back and forth between TB'ers, but I seriously doubt that there is anyone on this forum who would allow "bad" information about your instruments to get out.
