You could make necks/bodies out of metal or carbon fiber and make them as stiff as you like. I don't think you'd be comfortable playing a bass at 0 K without a nice warm coat.
This is my first talkbass post lol. So, something like this might be possible, but would probably be more in the realm of nano-technology. Maybe a programmable wood that keeps its exact density regardless of temperature. Obviously we have one foot in the realm of sci-fi here, but its good to dream!
You cannot fully freeze atoms due to the uncertainty principle
So if we bring gear into a night club that's at absolute zero, everything about it will be colder as a result. That woman that would have warmed up to you after the gig....cold as ice. i don't think we want to take chances like that.
As others have pointed out, carbon fibre has done 99% of this without causing a trip to the ER when your hands touch it.
Carbon fiber isn't very useful for our application without all that resin holding it together.
Says a guy who's clearly been hurriedly assembled from old truck parts...Basses like Status or Modulus or with métal fingerboard remove that problem
I remember hearing in science class that every physical thing is a mass of buzzing/shaking/moving (however you want to describe it) atoms. Which leads to the theory of "freezing" atoms and creating an immovable, unbreakable object (or perhaps something like a forcefield). If I was a scientist I would try to make this a reality with.... basses. Think about it, you could get the neck/action/set up right where you want it and freeze it forever. One could make their bass unbreakable, and totally resistant to any type of aging (now we're really done changing strings lol).
I, of course, have absolutely no idea how this would be done. I'm curious if anyone here has any actual knowledge of physics or any other sciences that would be a part of something like this. All are free to weigh in on this craziness though, so let me know what you think... unless it involves counseling![]()
Erm, not really. Liquid N2 is at -196 oC or thereabouts, while amsolute zero is -273.
I know, I know, not important for the question at hand but I play with liquid N2 often so I knew that one![]()
