My method of using Ged 2112 Sansamp through one amp

I just got my Geddy Sansamp in today.. It's freakin killer! Here's my way of using it through one amp. I'm sure some of you may already know about this. If not, I hope I helped!

I contacted Tech 21 and they sent me a download showing a diagram with two internal jumpers that sit right next to each other When the first one is reversed it combines the drive and deep channels allowing you to use one cable from the unit to your amp. The other jumper allows you to use the function switch as a bypass instead of a mute. The tech at my local store made these modifications while I watched and it took less than a minute. By eliminating the Morley ab/y box I was using to combine the two signals I eliminated nearly all of my background noise/hum from my amp and the unit still sounds great. The bottom panel of unit must be removed(six screws) to make these changes which are just as easily reversed if so desired.

I hate it when vendors release signature products to the public without thinking to add the little things that the artist might not need but would be essential to your average musician. A bypass switch and a mixed output would make so much sense here!

I agree completely. When I brought the unit home and went to hook it up I was surprised to find that the signals could not be mixed. I think like most bass players, I didn't buy the unit to replace my amp, it was simply to be used as another effect in the chain. I do end up liking the unit quite a bit and fortunately between the Tech 21 guy sending me several options and my local tech showing me how simple it was it turned out great. A couple of switches would have been easier though.

When he moved it, did he pick it up and put it down or did he have to use solder?

I just got my GED2112 today and did the mod discussed in this thread. After the six screws have been removed, it takes 2 seconds to do the mod: no tools necessary (just a finger and thumb). It sounds amazing.

He just lifted it gently until the pin came out of the hole and move it 180 degrees and seated the pin in the opposite hole.

Are you using it with an amp or a audio interface? I have no amp here so I’m going to plug it into my two channel audio interface Without out touching the jumper is this the way the 2112 was meant to be used?

I am using it with an amp. My head only has one input (DB751), so I needed to do the mod unless I wanted to haul an extra head to every gig.

The way you are going to use it, is pretty much exactly how it was intended to be. It was designed to Geddy's specs, and he prefers powering two separate cabs (either via interface, amps, or FOH) from the 2112. There's an interview on YouTube where he says he only shows up with a bass and the 2112 (no head. no cabs) and runs direct (two directs, that is: Drive and Deep):

If you are plugging into 2 channels you will not need to make any changes. I tried going through a Morley ab/y box and found it added a lot of noise. If you want to play it through a single channel amp then reversing the jumper is the way to go, IMO. Tech 21 will send you a picture and very clear directions if you wish to make the change. The unit was designed to plug into two amps or two channels of a mixing board whether on stage or in a studio but I think that Tech 21 figured out that many if not most bass players want to use it through a single amp head so they provided an easy and reversible modification. As others have stated, an extra switch with this function would have been nice but at least they provide an alternative.

Awesome! Got a hold of the mod instructions and am going to do this tomorrow. Once the internal jumpers have been moved, which output do you run from the GED to your amp?

I also find it annoying that the input select and mute functions are not foot switichable.

I mostly use it with the outputs going to separate amps, so I didn't want to do this mod - for those occasions when I want to blend the inputs I run a patchcord from the "Deep" output into the "Effects Return", and engage the 50/50 switch. Now both preamps go the "Drive" outputs - and you use the Level on the "Drive" channel for the overall level, while the Level on the "Deep" channel functions as a "Blend" control (higher levels add more of the Deep channel to the output).
