My method of using Ged 2112 Sansamp through one amp

Ok so I got annoyed at all the talk of “the mod” with no mention of how to do it so after I post I’m sure I’ll be able to go back and find it but really, couldn’t I just take my Morley A/B box usually used to quick switch basses and use it backwards? Run the DRIVE into A and the DEEP into B, switch them both to ON position and blend them into a single amp input?

If you’d like a “quicker” method for mixing the channels, you can run a short cable from the Deep section’s 1/4” Output, set for 0dB (button pushed in) to the Effect Return with the 50/50 mix engaged (button pushed in). Then run from the Drive section’s 1/4” Output to your amp, and/or the Drive XLR Out to the PA.


Start with both Level controls at 12:00. The Drive Level will now serve as a “master volume,” and the Deep Level will allow you to “blend in” the clean signal.

This is what I do - very simple and allows me the flexibility of reverting back to using the channels to drive separate amplifiers with just a cable. One thing I noticed though in a video someone posted about this method - the person in the video didn't like the mod because he claims now you use the "Drive" control for volume. I believe that is NOT correct and is because the alternate method states, "The Drive Level will now serve as a 'master volume'...". That statement I believe means the Level control of the "Drive" section, not the "Drive" control itself!

Some have said that this alternate method is less intuitive since rather than having two independent level controls, you have a master level (Drive Level control) and a "blend" (Deep Level control) - but this is the same paradigm as some Jazz basses use - Volume/Blend controls vs Volume/Volume controls for the pickups.

The latest models have a push-button switch accessible from the battery box door.

I contacted Tech 21 and they sent me a download showing a diagram with two internal jumpers that sit right next to each other When the first one is reversed it combines the drive and deep channels allowing you to use one cable from the unit to your amp. The other jumper allows you to use the function switch as a bypass instead of a mute. The tech at my local store made these modifications while I watched and it took less than a minute. By eliminating the Morley ab/y box I was using to combine the two signals I eliminated nearly all of my background noise/hum from my amp and the unit still sounds great. The bottom panel of unit must be removed(six screws) to make these changes which are just as easily reversed if so desired.

Do you by chance have the info that Tech21 sent you?

Great thread, and I like the idea of jumping it with a cable for quick and easy changes.

I was looking to see how people are using this in the signal chain. Do most people go straight through the front of the amp? Or are you going bypassing the pre-amp and going to the FX return or amp-in (if available).

My second question is, for those of you who have an SVT 4 Pro - Would it be possible to bi-amp this and send the deep and drive channel into the 4 pro independantly and using the amp in bridged mode.

I hate it when vendors release signature products to the public without thinking to add the little things that the artist might not need but would be essential to your average musician. A bypass switch and a mixed output would make so much sense here!

Why would you want to bypass a dedicated preamp???

Wow! Now why the manual did not give us this unique upgrade is a mystery to me. I was bummed I had to sacrifice the right of the face. Now combined is a much more and fater sound with lots of room for other adjustments. Thanks for the info! I did this myself and its amazingly better.

I mostly use it with the outputs going to separate amps, so I didn't want to do this mod - for those occasions when I want to blend the inputs I run a patchcord from the "Deep" output into the "Effects Return", and engage the 50/50 switch. Now both preamps go the "Drive" outputs - and you use the Level on the "Drive" channel for the overall level, while the Level on the "Deep" channel functions as a "Blend" control (higher levels add more of the Deep channel to the output).

Also I've read here about access to the switch by removing the "6"screws on back.Thing is my 2112 has only two screws and removing them doesn't allow the plate where the battery covers are located to be removed.Are we talking the DI-2112 or the rack mount version?

The pins in the photo are from the GED-2112 Rack-mount version, your photo is of the DI-2112, the always on pedal. You should have a little button inside the battery compartment that turns on/off combining the channels. Names are very close, so it does get confusing.

Just wanted to add to this old thread that there is also a jumper for the "Tight" setting if you search around. I found this by accident and it makes a WORLD of difference!
