My New cab

Hey,

Im getting a new cab and have pretty much narrowed it down to

A.) a mesa boogie Powerhouse 4x10
B.) Accugroove tri210L
C.) Accugroove el whappo jr.

and if theres anything i missed id be happy to take suggestions

Right now im powering with a mesa walkabout but want to leave enough to upgrade my head. i dont know if my 300w is enough to power the el whappo jr. either.....

anyone who has used two or all three comparisons would be nice to!!!

The Powerhouse is an amazing sounding 410 to me, but is VERY large (deep profile) and REALLY heavy.

I would avoid the Tri210... more low end than punch IMO, and it's in general quite dark sounding.

The Whappo Jr is a great, warm, fat, nice sounding cab, and would be my choice from your list. It doesn't really 'grind', but is open, smooth and pure, and can get plenty punchy in the low mids with the right EQ.

However, accenting 200 hz and 1-2K grind... that is an EXACT description of the new Bergantino AE410. It's small (only 16" deep), relatively lightweight (about 62 pounds), very punchy in the low mids, very even through the mid mids, and it has a bit of a spike in the upper mids (it grinds if you want it to). It's relatively high SPL (loud per watt). Wonderful cab, and probably a touch less expensive than the Whappo Jr. It is a 4ohm cab.

You might want to PM TBer Chef, who has this cab and also owns and likes the Walkabout. This cab supposedly KILLS with the new Mesa M6 Carbine, which is much louder and punchier than the Walkabout. I have a feeling the Whappo Jr. would also match up very well with the Carbine.

Finally, the Genz Benz Neo212 (I've still not heard this cab) also gets rave reviews for a tight, punchy tone with plenty of upper mid grind, so that's worth looking at also.

wow that berg AE410 sounds like a ringer to me from what ive read so far, now i need to decide between that and the whappo jr.

advice please im thinking so hard my brain hurts

I also highly recommend the AE410 for what 'you may' be looking for.

I had both Agrooves and I did like the Jr. well enough.
Ken is on the money with the Tri210.
Also had the El Whappo which was my favorite AG.

It's very difficult to help choose gear. The best way of course is to try it out live if you can. Full well knowing that is often not possible that much. I can say the experience here on TB helps a lot as well as create more uncertainty due to all the fine choices available these days. Boy do I know... But I pm people and ask questions all the time. Good luck and if you can give your brain a couple days to soak it all in.
