My new GB Shuttle 6.0 (pics)&Initial Review

shoot-r, I used the 6.0 with the 212XLT for several rehearsals before you bought the cab, and the pairing was very impressive to me. I ran it flat with the p-bass, and it killed. Plenty of lows and punch. I imagine it would sound nearly as good with your jazz basses.

:ninja: ;)

Would playing at louder than rehersal volume with a shuttle 6.0/212XLT set-up run the risk of blowing up the 212XLT?
I think the 212XLT is a 400W cab. Or is the shuttle 600W into 4 ohms?

I am still amazed at the 6.0... Aside from the La15 practice amp I bought back in 03 the only other amps I bought were the Fender Musicmaster amp I got when I first started playing back in the day... and the used Acoustic 410 head.. with the 301 bottom.. and that was back in the 70s.. so for me.. seeing all this umph in such a small package just blew me away..

I've been thinking of getting this. The dealer here is offering a $300 discount if I review it, but I'm not sure if getting the Shuttle 6.0 would be an overkill for a practice amp?

For a practice amp, it might be. But then again, is there ever such a thing as too much power? ;)

I keep my 4x10 in the practice space, but I'd certainly like a 1x10 or a 1x12 that I can practice at home with or take to informal jams.

Gents

I have the 3.0 now running through a new 4 ohm Avatar Neo 410. Only had the rig a week or so. I got it from AMS when they only had the 3.0s. They now have 6.0 as well. All the talk and revues these days are pro for the 6.0. Hardly anything for the 3.0. Did I make a mistake? Have any of you had the 3 and returned it for the 6? I've never been a tube guy, mostly played Hartke and set both pre's flat back then so I don't actually need that feature. But the extra juice might be helpful and I do like the idea of the foot switch for the 3 filters. So if it were you would you stay where I am or upgrade?

A little more info. I'm in a 5 peice band, 2 guitars and keys, electronic Yamaha drums and full FOH (Top40, classic rock). I've gone through a LMII and LM FI and currently have a GK700rbII in the last 6 months (help). None of them moved me much.
Thanks all.

Not sure...I had a 3.0-10T and added a 1x12. At 300 watts (with limited speaker area) it didn't work in our band setting.

Are you finding that your Shuttle 3.0 with the 4 ohm 4x10 isn't cutting it?

I've been using a ShuttleMax 6.0 with the 8 ohm 4x10 and I have headroom to spare -- at 375 watts. I've downgraded to a basic 6.0 because I didn't need the extra preamp, and I suspect that I will have the same results.

What you're doing is roughly equivalent to my setup (75 watt difference), and we run a pretty loud rehearsal. Give it a month or two and some EQ tweaks before you decide it isn't cutting it. Don't emphasize the bass freqs as much...tuning the midrange should help you the most.

Best of luck. Let us know how it works out for you.

No such thing as too much power? My neighbours might disagree!

Anyhow, I'll probably give it a go this weekend. Getting the Shuttle 6.0 with the 1x12 for $900 is a too good a deal to not consider. :)

I use mine as a practice amp using just 1 8ohm cab. I just add another cab when I'm gigging. I don't think it's overkill for practice at all! I also agree that you can never have too much power especially with amps of this size and weight!

I also own a 3.0 which is also good for practicing. But I'm thinking of selling it since I have a 6.0 and a Markbass LMIII. It's just redundancy at this point. I bought the 3.0 first with the intent of just using it for practicing but I just couldn't find a small, light 1x10 or 1x12 4ohm cab at a reasonable price.

Not at all... and you have to consider that when you buy an amp like this... don't think practice amp or gigging amp.. think last amp.. (unless you decide you need a backup down the road).. This amp and amps like it in it's power range and size weight range are very future oriented.. you can add more as you go along or as you need to and it can handle it.. This is my practice amp at home as I left my La15 at the drummer's house where we rehearse..

I really want to share this story, although this thread is a bit dated.

Today I stopped in the local shop to see what kind of stuff is in, and they have a nice GB rig (6.0 shuttle, GB 1x12 and GB 2x10). I was BLOWN AWAY at the sound of this set-up. It was my first time playing a micro, and I've only played a few amps with a tube in it.

I thought to myself "no way will a single 12 and two 10s be able to handle a low B at high volumes....

First of all, I didn't even need to go higher than 1/2 volume, which basically almost blew the walls off the tiny store. I'm really impressed with GB and their quality in sound, and even more impressed because I never hear anything about them around here. This, on top of the weight is incredible at around 65lbs for two cabs and a head.

Been thinking of pairing one of these shuttles up with a GB 1x12 and Eden 2x10XST.

I also went to Guitar Center today to try out a GK 1001rb-ii. The assistant manager had me hooked up to a used fender 4x10 and used fender 1x15 at around 200watts RMS.... it sounded like **** and I thought to myself "why the hell would he have me hooked up to these when all I'm going to do is blow them up?" He said "go ahead, don't be afraid to crank it". I said "I'm not afraid to crank it, but I'm afraid I'll blow up your fenders". He said "Don't worry, you won't blow them up". So, I cranked the 1001rb-ii and it farted the whole 20 minutes. In fact, I couldn't find a setting which DIDN'T fart, and it almost ruined GK for me.... especially when I went to plug the GK head into two GK cabs WHICH DIDN'T WORK.... This Guitar Center needs to get their **** together.

Point being, the GB shuttle blew my mind, and the cells in my body, for the day.
