Transitioning from eb to eub, took delivery today and straight out of the box, I am happy and excited with it. The thing that swayed me on this was it is fretless, longer scale than an eb, the neck feels great, the dot markers are great, it’s 5 string ... and it all easily packs away and readily fits in the car ... In Looking at stuff on the internet I appreciate there are diverse views on eub’s but as a transitional instrument I feel the WAV 5 provides a realistic way forward for people like me who want to enjoy an experience similar to an upright without having to buy an upright or battle that much harder on a fretless EUB instrument with no dot guidelines Obviously I have a big journey ahead but on first efforts in playing it, it feels good. I have a pile of jazz texts and material to work on and whilst I love eb I feel free from the shackles of trying to play walking bass type stuff on an eb Will post some video further down the track once I get some fluency happening Ross
CONGRATS! I recently picked up a Stagg EUB3/4 and couldn't be happier. I played upright in high school and haven't really touched the instrument since (36 years ago). I've always pined for an upright but couldn't justify it, especially with the bands I had been playing with. These days, I'm playing with a semi-acoustic jazz/blues/classic rock trio and about half of the songs benefit from the upright! These EUBs are a godsend, especially how easy they are to transport. I chose the Stagg for a couple of reasons, mostly availability but also a bit of cost. I was lucky enough to be 'in the right place, at the right time.' I had seriously considered the NS Designs WAV and would have bought one if the deal on the Stagg hadn't worked out. Ironically, my friend is bring in his WAV tomorrow so we can compare. He's also bringing his bow, which I will try and compare on both! Good luck!
Congrats! You'll have a blast! I did the same thing several years ago.... About a year ago purchased a " real". Upright. Doesn't transport as easily but it's a blast to play! Still have my NS 5 string EUB..... Doesn't get played as much as it used to but... Still fun as well! Good on you for expanding your horizons!
