My New Spector

they seem really cool basses but to me it looks like the same body as my Warwick steamer stage 1. do they sound similar to warwicks or do they have a dif sound ?

Ah, the Warwick has the same body as the Spector, don't get that confused. Spector was the originator. To answer your Q, this 2J sounds a lot more woody than my other Spectors. I haven't played many Warwicks so can't compare it.

Ive never changed a preamp in a bass so i dont really know the differences between them, could someone tell me the models of preamps of each brand, what they are called, how they sound, etc?

Yes. The Aguilar OBP-1 was used by Spector prior to the Spector Tone Pump EQ. I haven't heard the Tone Pump for myself, but the USA bolt-on I tried had the Aggie OBP-1. IMO it sounds sweet.

If you're thinking of putting an OBP-1 into your bass, that makes two of us . I don't think it would be all that hard to do if you have some soldering experience.

I have a Spector q5 now but im not going to fuss with changing the preamp in that, but i plan on buying a Spector Euro 4 neckthru in..10 months or so (i plan ahead because it takes me forever to acquire money) and i think ill put a new pre in that.

Who knows, you may like the Euro's Tone Pump EQ.

As I've previously posted, my Czech-made Spector (NS4CRFM, not many differences to the current 'Euro' series IMO) came with a 2-band EMG BTS EQ system. It's a cut/boost setup whereas the Aggie and Tone Pump are boost only.

Also, the knob layout using the Aggie or Tone Pump are: Volume, Volume, Bass Boost, High Boost. I rather prefer my current knob layout: Master Volume, Pickup Blend, Bass Boost/Cut, High Boost/Cut.

Because I prefer the current knob layout and it's cut/boost capabilities, I may just replace my BTS EQ with another one. But, it's sounding squeeky clean through my Crest amp. Maybe it wasn't the BTS' fault after all. I'm now thinking it was my old amp causing the distorted sound. I plan on hooking the old amp back up and doing some A/Bing with my new amp.
