My New Studio Build (perhaps overly detailed)

Mini split stopped heating again. Temperature was higher outside and no snow or ice. It heated up as soon as I moved the remote’s temperature up one degree. This appears to be symptomatic of a programming problem with the heating mode of the unit. I’m going to call an HVAC contractor tomorrow to get it dealt with. I took all of my basses and guitars inside the house for the time being.
 
What was the space temp when you moved it. It could just be the offset is more than you find comfortable. It could also be a schedule thing. Maybe if no schedule is set it stays in an unoccupied state until you make an adjustment.
The temp was so low that the thermostat in the remote just said ‘Lo’ rather than listing a temperature. The lowest I saw it previously was 60F.

I didn’t set any of the schedules. The manual is anything but helpful, but it has an intelligent mode that will toggle between heating, cooling, fan, and dehumidifier modes, as well as a dedicated heating mode. I’ve tried both and the condenser just spins away while the air handler gets stuck in pre-heating mode. While pre-heating the fan doesn’t engage to distribute any of the heat being pulled out of the air by the condenser.
 
Further update: After having it in “intelligent” mode for a few hours it seems to be operating normally. That’s odd because the manual says that the intelligent mode is only for cooling. The manual also shows a remote with different button labels, so maybe LG just hasn’t updated the manual to reflect their current models. I cranked it passed where I’d want it and when I was in the studio a moment ago it was 70F on the end opposite the mini split. I turned it down to 68F to see if it would stabilize. Going to keep checking through the evening. If it shuts off it could just be a timer setting I need to decipher like @winegamd suggested. Fingers crossed!

EDIT: Oh, and the HVAC contractor cancelled on me. We’re in the middle of what’s being called “Snowpacolypse” here in Seattle, so they’re busy fixing heat problems for elderly people, folks who’s sole heat source in their house went out, etc. I completely understand the lack of priority my service request bears and am happy to move back in line for those with real problems (ie boo hoo, my recording studio that’s ten feet from my well-heated House is a little chilly :p )

Sorry, I'm just confused, I think.. bear with me :)

At 64 it is... heating?
At 66 it is... off/idle?
At 71 it is... off/idle?
At 73 it is... cooling?

I’ve thrown out the previous settings, so this won’t be apples to apples. Previously I had the heat point set at 65F, meaning when the temperature hit 65F it would turn the heater on in an attempt to get it back to 68F. The reality is that meant it would heat up to 69-70F and then shut off. Conversely in cooling mode when it hit 72F it would attempt to cool it down to 68F, which really means if would intentionally overshoot to about 67-66F.

The current “intelligent” setting (according to the thoroughly inadequate manual) means that it will do whatever is needed to maintain a temperature of 68F. Thus far it seems more consistent, but I won’t really know until tomorrow morning.

AAAH! OK... that's where I got confused... when you said 'when the temperature hit 65F" I thought you meant when the temperature got UP to 65, when you actually meant when the temperature got DOWN to 65F.

I'm cool now. And yeah, both of my "intelligent" thermostats in my house overshoot the setpoints... they do seem to get a bit better as they gather more data on how the place heats and cools...

This isn’t quite that intelligent. Definitely not like a Nest type system. This is more like heating mode, cooling mode, or “intelligent” mode where it decides whether to heat or cool as needed based on the set point.

On a positive note, I’m out here for the third time today and it’s still maintaining temperature. I’m optimistic that this has remedied the issue, but overnight is the real test.

Mini split is misbehaving again. We’re back to above-freezing temperatures and the snow has transitioned to rain, so there’s no reason for it to not be working. The air handler sits idle and jumps back and forth between heating and cooling while the condenser does nothing. Something is wrong. Guess I’ll have to get the tech to come out after all... ugh...
