My New Studio Build (perhaps overly detailed)

I haven’t posted much in this thread. Most of the work I do is for other people’s projects, and once it’s out I tend to forget about it and move on to the next one. When I’m marketing myself as a mixer I usually just say “send me your tracks, I’ll do a rough, and if it’s heading in the right direction we can work together. If it’s not you don’t have to pay me and we can stop there.” It’s worked out well. One of these days I should put together a reel. I’m in the middle of album production on an indie pop LP, I’ve got an RnB record on deck to get started, and I’ve done a lot of remote bass sessions for a studio in Las Vegas over the last year.

Thanks for the reply. Your project was something of interest mostly for the demo and construction and if you were not of the ability to do so much it definitely would have been so much more expensive. I was in the trades for 30 years doing high end plumbing design and installation for clients who shall remain nameless. The fixtures themselves were the most expensive I have ever worked with and could never imagine them in my own home.
Your having to weave your way through the red tape that is city permitting and inspections had me laughing and crying. Boston is no better that Seattle in that respect.
Glad it all worked out and your better half takes nice photos.
Andrew Masters' channel on youtube might be the closest you find to something like that. I've picked up lots of ideas from his studio tour vids.

For those still reading this ridiculously long thread; @peterpalmieri was the original inspiration for this thread when he posted his own build.
Your thread helped me move forward and purchase the 12x16' "shed" that has become my working studio. Just cancelled a practice this afternoon to support a friends upcoming gig. Drummer just texted, that he's got a cold... and we can reschedule. Even though it's 28 degrees here today, it can easily be maintained at 70, thanks to insulation, e-Heat panels, and an older Force 10 propane heater we kept from one our old boats. So nice to have a dedicated space...

Everything was recorded in this studio except for the drums and the crunchy-sounding Wurlitzer. Mixing and mastering was done here too.
Applicable to Talkbass; The bass was double-tracked using my Dingwall Super J. One track is played fingerstyle, the other is played with a pick, and massive low end cut, overdrive, and slapback delay to evoke the 60s tic tac bass thing typically done on a Bass VI.

Oh nice! My buddies Kevin, Cody and Dirk all grew up on Vashon, and I’ve played a handful of gigs over there. Cool place.

Small world indeed! Cody briefly played drums in an 80s hair metal band I was in on bass and BVs with Kevin on lead vocals.
Oh and Kyle as well. Forgot he was from there. We’ve done one mega long bike ride and a lot of guitar surgery together.
Last I saw there was a pretty significant water leak, has that been resolved?
Also, in the last 10 years there has been a lot of progress in what one can achieve recording at home in a bedroom. Has that affected the studio? Ten years on, does it still feel like a worthwhile investment?
