Being that the structure isn't attached to your house and it's going to be one big room how much effort are you putting into sound proofing?

The issue isn't isolation from people in my house, which consists solely of my wife and our two cats. The issue is isolation from my neighbors (for their sake and a hopeful lack of noise complaints) and from the couple people that drive down the alley to access their parking areas (for the sake of recordings going on in the space not getting ruined).
I'm decoupling with Whisper Clips and hat channel. I'm adding mass by using two layers of drywall. I'm dampening by sandwiching Green Glue between the layers. The walls and the ceiling will get the same treatment. The floor already has 3/4" tongue and groove LP decking (similar in density to plywood) installed, so I'll be adding a layer of Green Glue and then DensDecking, which is a drywall-like product with a similar mass, but it holds up better to impacts (footfalls) than normal drywall. The area underneath the existing flood decking is completely filled with Roxul and then there's a surrounding wall of heavily compacted crushed rock and concrete blocks. The floor isn't decoupled, but I'm hoping that the huge amounts of mass and a dampening layer will get the job done. The door into the isolation perimeter will be a sound isolation door and will likely be the weakest point in the entire system.
i hope once it's done you can do a video or something where you can get a band playing in there and record/video outside so we can see the fruits of your sound proofing labor. i gotta imagine with all that going on and then the distant sound needs to travel to their house and into their homes (which aren't sound proofed but help), i think the noise will be nil.
I hope so too. I'll be shooting some videos as the structure begins coming together. Promotional types for my space. I haven't bothered yet because none of the work to this point has been specific to studio construction. I might do one that's a brief overview of site preparation and an explanation of where the building came from, but it will be brief.

A little clarification, FWIW (probably not much): In the Fab Feaux clip, which isn't recorded at Abbey Road, having the shield tight in front of the drums (and a reflective sheetrock wall behind) is a recipe for a long night for the drummer.
In contrast, the Abbey Road footage shows their drum room, which has glass door and front (not a drum shield). The front wall isn't right in the drummer's face, and the drum room also uses a lot of acoustic treatment inside to minimize the distracting high-end slapback you'd get from a shield.

It does have a similar vibe. Very similar in fact.
The heads I'm putting on will give it a very different sound than Levon's, and the snare is miles apart.
I think that snares are about the hardest part of a kit to buy. There can be a lot of back and forth. The one that you selected sounds like it will fit in pretty nicely.

The bass drum is getting an Aquarian Superkick2 on the batter side. It's my all-time favorite head for that application. The reso side is getting a Remo Fiberskyn FA that I'll port myself using an Aquarian port hole ring. This was mainly done for aesthetics reasons as I think it'll look killer on this kit. Normally I'd use use an Aquarian Regulator for this task.
The toms are getting Remo White Suede Emperors on the batter side and clear Ambassadors on the reso side.
The snare is also getting a White Suede Emperor on the batter side, and a Hazy Ambassador on the snare side.
I'll be pairing all of this with my full setup of Sabian HHX cymbals:
HHX 14" Click Hats
HHX 22" Omni Ride
HHX 16" Studio Crash
HHX 18" Studio Crash
HHX 10" Splash
And a soon to be arriving HHX 18" Chinese cymbal, or possibly the HHX 20" Zen China (haven't decided which I like more just yet).
Nice spead of symbals. You gotta have a splash to play striptease music. A DW drop-lock clutch on the hi-hat is a nice option.

Planning my own studio space build. Watching with interest.
I was planning to use gyproc, acoustic channels, 2x6 studs with R20 insulation, OSB, and 1"extruded polystyrene. I was also planning on providing energy absorbing panel inside.
Any idea if that will work OK? Any suggestions?
Space is 21'x25' with knee walls and 12:12 pitch.

Nice space.
I suggest that you find some good books on building a recording studio and use them to do your homework. This will take away a lot of the guesswork and describe how to do it right.
