My New Studio Build (perhaps overly detailed)

Saving money on the split is a good thing. Studio anything is demanding on the wallet.

I've been thinking about syncing DAW files to an extenal disk as they are saved. My MacBook Pro has a solid state drive, which is the only way to go. I bought a couple of external drives and they are way better than any disk based units that I have. I highly recommend the Samsung T5 solid state drives. The magic number in terms of cost/GB is 500GB, above that the $/GB price goes up. Been looking at this app for syncing the DAW: Qdea. A cloud drive requires the internet which I don't always have access to.

Well after a week of working in an office where half of the staff (about 60 people on the floor) was sick with a cold, the singer in one of my bands having a cold, and my wife, who's a doctor, treating a bunch of people with a cold... I got a cold. Bah! I had very high aspirations of getting a lot done on the studio this weekend, but alas... All I did was sit around. I did some more construction materials ordering, but other than that there are unfortunately no new updates. Next weekend... Next weekend...

Well... I didn't cover everything :banghead:

I forgot to include the floor area in my quantities for Green Glue. Added some tubes to my order. The folks at Trademark Soundproofing in New York were very accommodating to my screw up and modified my order, which pushed my GG quantities to the next pricing tier (i.e. lower price per tube).

Green Glue damping compound, Green Glue acoustic sealant, Whisper Clips, hat channel, acoustic backing putty, electrical outlet seal plates... should be a good order!

Good customer service. You can also count on FedEx delivering on time.

I ordered a radiant heater, bypassed the free shipping and paid for faster service so I would be here when it was supposed to be delivered. They missed their delivery deadline and still haven't shipped the item.

Our cats attempt to destroy every tree we've ever had, so we're content with one of those kitchy ceramic trees from the 60s that are all of about 12" tall with the little insert "lights" and one central light bulb. No way the TM boxes are fitting under there! :p

Everything is in the studio. Two more shipments from TM are due. I also got notification today that the mini split is on its way here. They have to make a delivery appointment for that one since the box is so heavy, so that will need to be coordinated and will likely result in me taking a day off work to get it done.

Now I think it is time to seriously document every step of the acoustic treatment and post us some pictures. This will be very interesting for my (not too distant) studio build...

To be clear, I think you mean 'sound isolation' (decreasing the transmission of sound to and from a space) not 'acoustic treatment' (tailoring the sound within a space).

Nomenclature nitpicking aside, I fully intend to document everything since this is the real meat and potatoes of studio construction. Everything to this point, including the little bit I have left before I can begin isolating, has been general construction stuff not specific to building a studio (minus the Roxul in the floor bays).

You make a good point. I can do better than photos! My wife thought it appropriate to text me a video after the FedEx guy dropped everything off at our house and realized that the boxes were too big and heavy for her to do anything with. Excuse the F-bomb that she drops in this...

When your contractor fails to put in corner ledgers... and you don't notice that they were missed... and your electrician doesn't say anything about it until after the drywall is installed...

You improvise! :D
