My new Wal!

I can't stay away man is that a nice bass. I would give that bass it's own room and give it a nice twin sized bed to sleep on.

Same thing happened to me. Bought an '82 MKI because at the time it was so hard to get an MKII

Finally got the MKII and sold the MKI 2 years later and i totally regret it. So dont sell it. They sound exactly the same. The only difference was the extra frets (which 99% of the time dont get used) and horn length.

Even though there was 20 something years between build dates on those 2 Wals...the neck played and felt the same.

I have a line on a MKI (fretless) that was born a fretted....think im going to "pull the trigger" and have talked to FBass' service guy about putting in some frets for me. Quote was cheap too (under $400). I have posted this pic before....

@toolmybass, I remember seeing videos of you playing your 1982 Wal. Lacewood facings if I recall. I pretty much obsessed over getting a Wal after watching your videos and hearing the tone you got. Love that growl. Just out of curiosity if you have an MKII fretted why do you want to turn that fretless into a fretted? I think it would be nice to have a fretted and a fretless Wal. I can't even fathom owning more than 1 wal hahaha.

My very first Wal was a Schedua MkIII with a Rosewood fingerboard and gold hardware. Schedua is a fantastic wood for a punchy growl.

I still miss that bass!

@mjac28 hahaha your cracking me up, and thank you. @ Vegas, you gibe me hope that one day I may own more than 1 Wal lol but for now i'm thankful just to have this one. How manys wals do you have now vegas?

why do you want to turn that fretless into a fretted?

Have no desire to play fretless or Jaco/Karn type music. I dont hate it or anything..just my preference. If im going to spend that kind of $$ on one, i would prefer frets

Yeah i can understand that. I have the cheap crappy fretless that i spent 200$ on just so i had it to goof around on and honestly I never pick it up. I;m a fretted guy and always will be. The finish on that bass is gorgeous by the way!

Yea...Olive Ash prolly makes my top 5 (as far as Wal facings go)

@jgroh you will get one eventually if your determined. About 5 weeks before i got this bass i was complaining to my wife about how I will never own a wal and if I do I will be 40 years old when I get it. A couple weeks later my 5 string sold, the Wal popped up on ebay I borrowed the remainder I needed from family and snatched it up. Never thought it would happen but it did. You'll get one!
