My new Warwick Corvette Std

I've only been learning bass for 6 months but finally got sick of the nasty sound coming from my Ibanez SR200FM. So I went out and splurged on a Warwick. I went 5 string, I figure I may as well get something I can grow into.

I'm in love with it!! OK, I can't play all that well yet but the tone that comes from that wood is awesome!

Very very happy Warwick owner.

Here's a pic

I have a fretless 5'er that I love to play. You take good care of that bass and it will take good care of you. I prefer the sound of the Corvette Std over the more expensive Thumb every time. IMHO

edit: BTW the Warwick paste wax is good but I prefer Howards Feed n' Wax

Congrats! Those are great basses. I helped out a friend who was bass shopping and he ended up on the 4 string version. Great tone and amazingly easy to play. Felt like very solid quality. I had been drooling over it a couple of weeks myself, but I really don't need any more basses right now. :) So when my friend wanted a new bass I steered him in the right direction.

By the way I just saw N.E.R.D. at a festival here in Norway and their bass player had a bass just like yours.

I love the sound, I hate the neck : (
it's really a shame, every time I go into Guitar Center I try to find a Warwick that my hands can get used to but it never happens!

If you can find one, the older vettes with the wenge neck were thinner and had more growl than the newer ovangkol necks. Much easier to play, but finding one is very difficult.

SbOh - killer axe! Great score!

I have one with wenge and one without, and I don't really hear a difference between them. Perhaps the wenge is a little warmer, but that's it. It sounds fabulous, but not nearly the difference I was expecting.

To be perfectly honest, I also prefer the neck on the 2006. Maybe it's just comfort, but I've played the wenge for the last 2 months solid and it's just not as comfortable. It may very well be hitting the road soon.

Just for fun, my "twins"...

Warwick is reverting back to slim necks. If you happen to find a 2010 model some day, give it a try :)

BTW, great axe. I have a 4 string corvette which is very nice, especially after the pickup upgrade. My heaviest bass (in weight) though!

Good news everyone.
Warwick now offer 3 necks profiles.
Pre 98 = slim.
98 to 09 = fat.
09 = slim.
September 09 = extra slim, slim & fat all available as an option.
Also, the custom shop is now offering traditional,non-hidden neck through construction on basses that normall have the hidden neck through design.eg.Thumb NT,Streamer stage 2,Buzzard JE etc.

Yeah but even their "slim" old style necks are fatter than any Fender I've played, which is a real shame because I love the sound of a Warwick.

Congrats!
Lovin my std 5.

The neck isn't a big deal to me, but what is taking some getting used to is the way it balances/wears.

I used to play my bass very high. I like it to be an extension of my body. That worked great w/ Ibanez and G&L but the Warwick doesn't work up high for me.

Now, wearing it lower, I find myself having to support the neck more than I would like to keep the neck as high as I want it.

All that said, I love it. It feels fundamentally solid.
