My newly purchased Pbass!

Hey everyone,
Just thought I'd start a new thread and get your thoughts on a precision I picked up last night. Its 1982 '57 reissue with a '77 neck. The color is Firemist Silver, over the years the paint oxidized and turn greenish. It also has a badass bridge. After a quick jam session I have come to agree that this the best bass I have ever purchased, and probably ever will. In some ways I do wish the neck was a little wider. I have a 2005 50's reissue that I got used to playing that has a much wider neck, but I'm sure I'll get used to this really soon. Let me know what you think, leave some comments. I plan to put a black pick guard on it tomorrow, I'm not crazy about the gold right now. I'll also post some better pics, I took these with my phone because I just couldn't wait to show it off.

p-basses are almost always good in my book. as long as i've been playing i've had at least one in my collection.


edit - that doesn't look like a badass bridge, but some kind of aftermarket highmass type. never seen one like that before.

But I gotta say, I think the anodized gold PG goes well with the maple board. It's pure vintage vibe.

Yea I wasn't too sure on the bridge. The sustain on the bass is definitely a lot better then my other basses but I'm not crazy about how large that bridge is. I might buy a new badass to put on there.

If the bridge is solidly mounted and you can adjust it, I'd leave it on. A new BA would looke a little odd IMO, and BAs are a little overrated (also MO).

That is a DiMarzio bridge. Very solid and very heavy. IMO a better design than a Badass. I had one on a parts bass once back in the eighties, which is when they were available. Well made, but they do add a lot of weight. I'd keep it. Somewhere I have an old DiMarzio catalog that shows it.

I had that DiMarzio bridge on my Precision for about 3 days and had to get rid of it. It is, as Mark said, a very well made bridge. But notice that the saddles cover the top of the strings. That absolutely drove me nuts when I tried to play it. I replaced it with a Schaller roller bridge almost immediately.
