I got this bass about 8 years ago now, and I bought it as pictured, with no wear incurred. It is interesting to see a few differences:
The serial number on the black one is on the backside of the neck at the nut, whereas mine is on the "butt" of the instrument. Also, the tuners are different. Mine seem to be stock as there are no holes or signs around the tuners that anything was ever changed or modded. Maybe those Fender-style tuners were also standard, but changes were made midway through production? Also the logo is different. It's an interesting instrument- it has a little higher range (fretting) than my six-string bass. I like the phenolic fretboard, but am not so crazy about the 35-inch scale.
