my OLP MM2 basses

3olp.gif

I love them.

from the left:

1) upgraded pickup to an alnico SD Basslines. Lovely. Relaced original white pickguard with a black one, classy. Still passive, but about to inherit the 2EQ preamp from my 2002 MM Stingray

2) still stock, except pickguard (hated the original white one). Will inherit the 2EQ preamp from my MM SUB5. I just removed the frets... still needs some work but it's already playable. Fun.

3) pickup upgraded to an alnico SD Basslines, and also installed a 3-band SD preamp and a Hipshot D-tuner. It was my main bass for a long time, preferring it over my Warwick Corvette $$ and others. Originally it had a tortoise-shell type pickguard, but I prefer the black one.

I love these OLPs.

hey whats gonna happen to ur sub and stingray without their preamps? why u gotta neuter them like that bro

The Stingray has become the main bass I play, by far. At home I do play others, but for rehearsal/gigs, the Stingray is the one I grab. I installed a John East preamp there, which is very much like the original 2EQ preamp, plus a mid-freq module. It's delicious. So not neutered in any way, it's better than it was! :)

I have another John East preamp I bought in another forum sitting in my drawer, and that one will go into the SUB5.

I was going to keep the original preamps in case I ever wanted to sell teh basses... but that Stingray will stay with me, I can't imagine selling it ever... so I might as well use its preamp elsewhere.

i recently picked up an OLP MM2 stingray, beautiful bass and great tone.. but damn do those fret end cut you bad when trying to play a fast riff. had to file mine down and i still dont think its enough.

I did a fret level, rolled the fingerboard edges and cleaned up the fret ends on mine. This OLP is damn impressive after a little work.

I picked up one on CL for pretty cheap. I am currently going through and attempting to fix the dings in the poly finish and re-wiring it with a cheapo chinese eBay 3-band EQ.

I used a BelCat 3 band EQ (that I picked up on eBay about 5 years ago for $45) on one of my franken-jbasses. The thing sounded really good.
