My preamp journey

I viewed it as a dirt pedal when it came in. Then I played around with it and suddenly was not so sure any more. It does that lovely impression of a strained tube amp when you set root a bit past noon and have the gain on the edge of breakup.
However, the higher you go, the more you feel like playing something else. Almost like a synth, but not a synth.
If synths grew on trees and you'd pick one from an organic, non GMO synth tree orchard, it could sound like this.
Dime it all and even then it stays pleasant.
When you run it at higher gain, the way it clears up on note decay, at least on my flatwound setup, reminds me of an envelope filter going shut.
thanks for the info, and I agree that this is a pretty cool and "different" pedal - super cool!

What wizardry is this? Anyone ever hear anything about this?

Baroni-Lab Mini 200 Watt Bass Amp 2020 - Blk | Reverb

200 watt amp in a pedal?!?!?!?!?!?!
I saw it on Facebook today, and I made some research: no website for that brand, I read somewhere that it was a brand of Neunaber, and Neunaber seems to belong to Quilter now, so I guess this amp in a pedal must be completely discontinued.

I'll find out shortly, I just ordered one - coming from Paris!

That's most intriguing!
Your link on Reverb is the only place on the web where I see this product (except on a FB publication today), there's no official website (like many boutique builders).
I guess the info about Neunaber was wrong.

Also, it's sold as new so I guess it's not discontinued.

Then the seller is "WittmanSpins, Williamsport, PA, États-Unis", and when you go to the seller's page on Reverb, there's no product available. How come we can order a product from an empty shop? (I don't know Reverb very well)

Last the seller on your Reverb page is based in the USA and doesn't want to ship to France, so how comse when you order it, it comes from France ?

Mysterious, but wait and see…

But I think quite a few Talkbass members would be happy to find a pedalboard friendly 200W power amp (there's an effect loop so you can bypass the preamp and use it as a power amp).

I bought it from a different seller - this is the one that I got -

Baroni Lab Mini Amp Bass 200W | Reverb

I just threw that first Reverb link on there because I saw it on Facebook and did a quick search and like you, I couldn't find much on iot, so I figured it would be worth a shot to find out. I let GAS get the better of me though, and the French shop had the best price :-)

I'll let y'all know what I think of it when it gets here, but I'm optimistic!

BTW I absolutely LOVE Paris - once of my favorite cities in the world.

It looks like this is the website - Baroni – Fox Gear Distribution

congrats for finding this gem

if it confirms to be as good ad it seems, I suggest you start a dedicated thread

My 1st Fuzz pedal was by FOX Gear, it was before I understood Fuzz and returned it. It was well made and surprisingly lightweight. I'd be interested in hearing about this from you guy's. Headphone jack? would make for great backup rig solution.

Yeah I'll be posting a full report. Since it's coming from the EU it may be a bit, and I also like the idea of the dedicated thread.

Came today! I'm not gonna get a chance to try it until after Mardi Gras tho!

Edit: I had a few minutes to mess with it while my wife was getting her glitter on :-) It certainly delivers! It's loud and sounds great! Almost reminds me of an Elf, but in a different format, and the compressor is no joke! EQ is very responsive as well, and it doesn't clip harshly like some other small format heads do.

I wish it had a Neutrik speaker jack, but if i decide to keep it I'll probably swap the 1/4 speaker jack out. So far so good, I'll post a full review after mardi Gras.

It houses an amp section that does 200W @ 4 Ohm, so it needs a bit more juice than the usual 9V.
I get that part, it's more that it's using a laptop style outboard PSU for it rather than it being onboard like the Seymour Duncan Powerstage 200: Powerstage™ 200 | Seymour Duncan or the Baby Sumo.

Like, good luck if anything happens to the power supply.
