Nad, what do you think of Mark Olson's Prescription Electronics Experience Octave Fuzz clips? To me that sounds like heavy distortion, without the octave that is.

My quest for a heavy distortion continues.

I hesitate to bump this because I'm certain that some people will miss this conclusion and continue to make suggestions, but, I must update my findings:
The Fatman (sans V2) is a distortion pedal of extraordinary magnitude. It has been on my board for about a month, but today at my louder band's rehearsal, I hesitated not to turn it on, but rather to disengage it in all of its red-LED'd glory because the sound was far too glorious to cancel even if for but a moment. If tube amps offered this type of control over saturation and volume, I would still use them. Granted, the Fatman offers not anything in the form of sag (which is half the fun of tube amps, particularly those equipped with vacuum tube rectifiers), but in terms of aural punishment that feels like being smothered by a plethora of the finest satin pillows in all of existence, 3Xfx delivers in spades. Wonderful stuff. Blue Berry, begone! Enjoy thy new home! The Fatman walks alone.

You should get a Bluebeard. I've never tried it, but my friend's cousin's baby sister's boyfriend says it's awesome.

Hey although the fatman is the proven 'winner' (will have to check it out one day), just wanted to say that Ryans Rat mod was seriously f**king heavy
Oh yeah.
I loved the V2 version, it just needed something to calm down the higher frequencies of it all. This worked. A lot. A lot a lot.

If you ever start looking again, definitely check out the Fatman. The Blue Berry is quite special no doubt, but this is a much more workable solution, if that makes sense. I'm a bit picky with how much of my original tone is retained in Dirt Land, and the Fatman is pretty much exactly on the line between acceptable and the alternative. For me at least.
Fun fact: my other bassist (my second band features two bassists) once commented on how awesome the Fatman/V2 version sounded, but has yet to discuss this non-V2 version. Food for thought.
