My Sadowsky

does anyone else second the idea of getting a clear pick guard? i've never seen them in person so i'm not sure how they look on basses

I'd look into it. As in, I'd take the PG off the bass and see how it looks without it. Then you'll get an idea what it will look like and how much it will change the look of the bass while showing more of that gorgeous top before you invest the $$ in a clear PG. Obviously, there will be the glare from the clear PG to factor in as well -- it's clear, but it will produce a lot of glare so clear is not the same as invisible.

But yeah, I'd consider it. Personally though, one of the reasons I keep posting pics of your bass in the "dream bass" threads is how it looks like a regular sunburst Jazz from a long way away, and then the amazing top is revealed when you get closer -- it's fancy without being blingy like one of the uber quilted tops -- classy but still a little subtle. A clear PG would ruin that, though it would show more of that amazing top.

Tough choice, IMO. I'd also ask the folks on the Sadowsky thread (part 5 by now I think), as some of them have experience with clear PGs. Clear PGs do also show more swirling and wear which can make them look more ratty quickly from player wear than regular PGs do.
