My Stambaugh Attitude bass build

I have played the same pair of Yamaha limited addition Billy sheehan attitude basses for about 15 years. I played and still own an attitude standard for 5 years before that so, to say that I never come to this sectin to look at basses is an understatement. I like what I like, and I stick with it. But, there have always been some things that I wanted to improve on with these basses and now, that is going to happen.

Im having Chris Stambaugh build me one from scratch. It is basically the same boday and huge neck but everything else is tweaked from there. Here is a pic of the body and fretboard.

Im using the same inlay design as my old basses because it looks cool and I can't tell you how easy it is to see them just in case you get lost (drunk) in the dark at a gig. Im using imperial jade. The peice of jade show is about 2"x3".

Here is the body totally routered. The piece of paper near the p-pickup rout is where a piece of pickgaurd with be inlayed to stop my thumb from wearing a hole in the body. It will be alittle bigger than the paper. I should have pictures of the inlayed neck today and hopefully chris will send it to the finisher on monday.

I love the bass. It is exactly what I asked for. The inlays aren't quite the right size but, Im sure that we'll work something out. I'll figure out how to blow these photos up so that you can actually see the birdseye and jade.

Very nice!! I like that the markers are just inlays and not really scallops like on the official Attitude bass. It looks like you're going to have only one jack... is that right? I like the tonal options of bi-amping but I'm just a small time player who has to lug his own gear around so I don't need the option of bi-amping... the Model One and Split P combined to one amp is good enough for me.

The inlays were all the wrong size so, the fretboard had to be peeled off and started over. The new fretboard is on and will be fretted next week. Then the inlays, then to the finisher. Yeah, I haven't used both pickups in a long time. Thats why I've got a custom pickgaurd on both my attitude basses. Just the p=pickup and a volume. I own an attitude standard with a j-pickup in it and have always wished my limiteds had it. So, the new bass will. It's going to be awsome, it's just taking a long time.

In theory, I should have the new bass in about a week. I'll give it 3 more weeks. It will probably be just at or over a year since placing the order when I finally get the bass. Thats a long wait but, Im sure it will be awsome.

It's not. A j and p is it. This is the better version of my attitude basses. Better neck joint, materials, electronics, lighter, less neck dive, cool look, ......a really sweet gig bass. It's the summation of all the things I wish my yamaha basses were.

Nice piece! Love what you're doing to this ole' standard design. One suggestion though - you should learn how to post your photos to Photobucket (or similar) and then export them from that site. That way, the photos are big and you can post as many as you want and we don't have to keep clicking on the "thumbnails". Other than that, I can't wait to see more!
