Do you mean the singlecut or doublecut? In general, Sukops are pretty light. They're also thin back to front, with the entire body hand carved in a radius that matches the fingerboard. As far as looks--I know exactly what you mean. The singlecut looks really different on the body held at playing angle than it does on a stand. It takes the emphasis away from the bulge of the upper singlecut side and makes it seem somehow more tapered (more similar to a Fodera Emperor II with it on, even though not at all alike in a photo).

I have been playing my singlecut 5er nonstop, and it is now far and away my favorite Sukop design aesthetically. As I mentioned, this really surprises me, b/c I just didn't like the singlecut look when I saw it. I think it's fair to say that it looks better in person than in pictures, where depending on the angle, the upper horn can appear downright humongous. It's certainly not petite, but the instrument feels great against the chest and the curve appears quite natural rather than exaggerated. I wouldn't mind it just slightly less prominent, but I certainly don't mind it as is. Plus--the bass plays like magic. Seriously. I'm not sure what it is about these basses, but they're extraordinary.
