Double Bass My Wizzy 10" Comes Today - Now, What Amp?

Mr. FedEx will be delivering my Wizzy 10" today. This will be my first "dedicated" piece of DB amplification gear and I'm wondering about amps.

My current setup is a GB Shuttle 6.0 that I've been using with either a Shuttle 210 or NEOX 112T with pretty good results on my DB, as well as EB and EUB. To start off with, I'll obviously try the Shuttle with the Wizzy but I'm wondering since this will only be used for my DB, would a different amp that is a bit more specialized for DB, be better?

The EA Micro seems to be the standard for use with the Wizzy. I've read a few comparison threads but not specific to the Wizzy AND DB only. I'm also reading good things about Acoustic Image products, though selling a kidney to afford one might not be possible currently.

Any thoughts on the Shuttle vs. Micro in this situation?

I think you're rig will be just fine with the Shuttle 6.0 into the Wizzy 10, but then both of the Genz Benz cabinets you have sound great too. My guess here is that you are trying to get a lower weight cab, for those long distance schleps? Yes? At some point along the way, you could certainly try out and EA Doubler, but I don't think there's any reason to jump on that right away. The Doubler was specialized for DB and EB with different EQ's on Channel 1 and Channel 2.

Actually, with DB, I would think the few extra dollars you spend on the Doubler, would give it a definite edge, over the EA Micro. The difference in cost is @$80.00 definitely worth waiting for, IME, IMHO.

Personally, I'd just stick with the Shuttle 6.0 rather than move to the Micro. It's kind of like changing from Apples to Oranges. It's a two channel amp, but it's missing some important features for Double Bass IMHO. Just my take.

Thanks guys. I'll admit there's a touch of "gear lust" involved in my question.

And yes to Ric, taking more cabinet than I need is lately not as fun as it once was. In fact, I did a gig last weekend where I just went DI into the house system. I didn't know what to do with myself when I made it into the little venue in one trip ;)

I got to do that on a little show I was doing last year. It sure makes life easy. I've had it down to two trips for years now with the Double Bass, and one with the Lakland 55-94, or the Clevenger EUB. I'm searching for the rig that will get it down to 1, but its like the quest tor the Holy Grail, I won't compromise my sound just to have a midget rig. I've got it down to 28 and 30 pounds for the cabinet and 7 or 9 lbs for the head. Mike Arnopol's doing great work in stellar tone with small cabinets, so I've got my eyes turned toward a Crazy 8 or small Big E after I thin the heard.

One of the advantages of a home office is that you can be around when Mr. FedEx stops by. :)

Got it setup and spent about 15 minutes messing with it to get an EQ setting on both my Pre and my GB but am fairly happy with it. I'm shocked at how much low end I have to roll off to keep it from getting muddy. Amazing amount of low end for such a dinky cab. Not so impressed with it on my EUBs, but we'll see if some more EQ tweaking might fix that. Very cool little setup and would be uber easy to gig with, though it most likely will only see the smallest stages on my schedule.

It's funny that my little custom built rack that my Shuttle is in, is so big it only fits on the Wizzy on it's side. I got luck though: the tolex I used on my Shuttle rack is identical to the tolex on the Wizzy.

BTW - anybody know of a padded cover for these? or do I need to go custom with D2F or LeCover?
