Mysterious Farting

Talk Bass never disappoints we made it all the way to the second reply before someone made a fart joke!
Ha! One of the advertisements that came up when I was reading this thread is a Gensler ad that reads “Got G.A.S.?”

I have a few updates. I had already tested the battery and it checked out so that wasn't it. THen I moved my setup outside because I wanted to rule out any strange room resonances; there was no change--still heard the farting.
I made sure I didn't have the bass cut/boost all the way up. Usually it's somewhere between flat and +50%, but even cut 100% it still was doing it.
The Shuttle has a gain and volume knob in the preamp section, with a Signal O/L LED that glows a pleasing orange when you overdrive the tube. It wasn't coming on. I had gain at about 2 o'clock and the volume at about 10 o'clock.
Well, I dialed the gain way back to 8 o'clock and boosted the volume to about 4 o'clock. The farting WENT AWAY. That was it. Turns out my LED is not working any more. I later dimed the gain and it still stayed off.
Strange though that with gain at 2 o'clock I wasn't getting that overdrive sound on the higher notes but getting significant distortion on the lower notes. Also strange that the Yamaha didn't do it at all till just a tiny bit when the gain was all the way up. And with gain low and volume high, there is a major increase in a hissing sound that I don't recall hearing before.
I just eyeballed the pickup and it's maybe 1/8 inch from pole piece to string, so I may mess around with that as well. Thanks for the laughs and the advice folks!
