Mysterious Farting

I noticed that as I hit lower notes, my cab sounds like it's farting out. Honestly I don't know for certain if I'm using the proper language here so I'd be happy to hear some clarification...

It seems like the sound is distorting. And as the note fades the distortion seems to lower, but it's not like a volume-induced on or off. I notice it around A or Ab and it stays there all the way to E. It happens even when my volume is low. Like try not to wake the kids volume.
Actually I just plugged in and I notice it all the way up to E (3rd sting, 7th fret, what is that E4?) And it is more pronounced with higher volume and with my bass knob boosted. I'm playing a Warwick FNA which has a MM style humbucker with active electronics.
The mysterious thing is that with my other bass I don't hear it at all. It's a Yamaha Attitude Standard which is a PJ style bass and just volume and tone and a 3-position selector switch.
I'm playing through a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 and an Avatar 210. It's mostly flat for eq, and I still hear it even when the bass is cut all the way.
It seems like it should be happening on both basses, so what's up? Any thoughts? Anything I can try to do to figure out the cause?

Edit: Just googled it cause I had to know. Low E on bass is E1 and the note I was talking about was E2.

Have you tried a different amp and a different speaker to rule out one or the other?

Is it an 8 ohm 210 or a 4 ohm 210?

I haven’t tried any other amp/cab combos. My other cab is at my friend’s house where we rehearse and I only have the one amp. It’s 8 ohm if I remember right. I’ll correct that tomorrow if it’s different.

Check the batteries in your Warwick. Dying batteries cause all kinds of sonic weirdness.

Had that issue with my Fender elite bass. The E string would fart out but not all the other strings.. checked the preamp tube, speakers, then battery in the bass.. changed it ,, still did it... changed it again with a battery from the guitar player and it was fine. Who knew.

The Warwick is active and could be clipping the input. Try turning the volume down on the bass and see if it goes away.

A couple of my basses have very high output and I need to pull the input gain right back to avoid distortion.

The Shuttle has an input clip LED so clipping or overdriving the input should be obvious.

Pickup height adjustment?.. Is it too close to the offending string?.. Had similar issue w/ a P Bass.

No expert here like the ever-gracious @agedhorse but given the line above buried in your OP, sounds like the bass is the source of your problem. Maybe pickup height on the e string side, or a problem somewhere in the electronics???? Or a simple as a fading battery???

No expert here like the ever-gracious @agedhorse but given the line above buried in your OP, sounds like the bass is the source of your problem. Maybe pickup height on the e string side, or a problem somewhere in the electronics???? Or a simple as a fading battery???

I missed that part, most certainly would indicate a problem with the bass, maybe a battery.

Consult your doctor and get some Gas-X....
