I did it. I finally freakin did it! After I spent the weekend at the Chicago Blues Festival, I took a walk down Lincoln Avenue to the Chicago Music Exchange. There, amongst the brother P-Basses and sister J-Basses, was my Holy Grail of bass guitars: the 1966 Fender Precision.

My wife doesn't understand, but I told her I'd sell several of my basses ('80 Peavey T-40; Fender MIA Jazz V; Fender 70's Classic Jazz; Lakland Duck Dunn), then make up the difference. Thanks to Marc Najjar, the bass guy there for hookin me up. I should have it Friday morning when I get off shift... all set up with flats, ready to rattle the walls and windows.

I don't care that they're post CBS and the fact that they're worth less, '66's are my fav's.

Meh...post-CBS. Not an issue for me. If I was born in '64, I'd have a pre-CBS.

This bass plays beautifully, has tons of character, and based on what I've read, there were no real big changes in production until much later. This bass has pre- parts, built by the same dudes, in the same factory, within a few months.

Indeed! What a beauty! Makes me sad for just selling my '64, but the profit makes me feel better! :D

Wishing you many years of happiness with your new lady!

Very cool....looks like you're on Cloud 9 in that pic!! Man, but if that bass could talk!

If I had a girlfriend or was married, was finacially responsible (I am) and they objected I'd tell them..."this is my drug, my gambling, my alcohol and my philandering. Consider yourself VERY lucky."

Although, I'd hate to think what I'd have to pay for a birth year bass (1953) for myself.
