NA(&P)D: Genzler Magellan 800

Thanks to everyone who gave advice and thoughts. This is replacing my (for sale if you want it, check the classifieds!) iAMP 350. I bought in December when they were running their deal that included a pedal (so the Crash Box 4 pedal is new as well).

Technically this was a GAS purchase I suppose. The iAMP sounded great. I just found it a little too complicated to deal with. It's also pretty heavy. Mostly though, it's so so clean. Yes, a pedal could've probably dealt with that, but I thought something like the MG-800 with a drive channel would be fun.

Finally—after getting speakon cables, which I didn't have—I've had a chance to play it. I have it hooked to two Aguilar cabs, a GS112 and an S210.

The clean channel is… clean. It's great, loud and clear.

The drive channel is really cool and exciting for me. When I was in my band, I had a GK400RB and that sound was my thing… scooped and clean. But, as I've gotten older, I've gotten more varied in my tastes. I've never owned a bass tube amp, but this drive channel sounds the way I think those must sound. It was funny, before I got the speakon cables I just experimented with the DI. The drive channel through there was very very driven. But, hooked up to cabs… it's less so, but it has some I-don't-know-what that makes it very delicious.

I like the A countour with the clean… I hear that GK thing a bit there. Obviously I have to experiment a lot.

Hopefully this year I can get involved in a live project—that's the goal.

Very nice! On occasion I will use the drive channel on some of our rock songs we do. I use just enough drive to add some punch/crunch to the notes but nothing too crazy. That's all I really need so slim chances of me picking up either of the drive pedals.... at least for now. Hopefully you find a group to play with and really get to unleash the new amp! I've had my setup for several years now and haven't looked back.

I haven't used mine in years, as my combo Markbass handles everything I've done, but I still have this for the big rig. I love it. It is so transparent, and that's what I like about it. Enjoy!
