NAD .... 1969 Traynor bassmaster mark II

I'm hopefully picking up an old Traynor YBA-1 mark ll tomorrow. It has been re tubed and caps were replaced. I just wanted to double check the speaker out. Does anyone know what its rated for? I have an 8 ohm cab that I wanted to use but I know some of the old Traynors were 4 / 2 ohms. Any of the pics online it doesnt show anything on the back of the amp. Is it cool to run a 8 ohm cab with this amp?

*Update* Got to play the amp for a bit and was totally impressed. Loved the sound. But when I swapped the cord to channel 2 the volume was cutting in and out. The seller is sending it back to the tech to check it out. Hoping its just the pot. Should have it back within the next week. Waiting sucks haha

I grew up with Traynor gear, it's a gas ( or GAS ) that it is still in use today, as evidenced above!

When you get it back, try plugging into input one, then jumping from input one, into input two.
Input one tone stack is set up for bass and input two tone stack is set up for guitar. Combining the two really opens up the amp, you just have to find the right balance of signal for your tome goals.

Yeah I'm looking forward to being able to jumper the two channels. I do it on my old Ampeg BT25. I'm guessing it will be much different on the bassmaster though since the two channels are voiced so different.

Back in the 90’s my guitarist at the time bought one of those with a 2x15 cab. He kept the head for himself and sold me the cab for about $100. I recall it was a very manageable size/weight cab. Never tried the head with my bass - but he used it for guitar and sounded good.

Its finally home! and sounds amazing. So deep and powerful for a 90 watt amp. The amount of different tones you can dial in on this is crazy. Extremely happy with this score. Cleaned it up a bit... still need to scotchbrite the chrome corners but that will be later.

From the pics, it look like they have modded the power cord to a three prong? If not, I would suggest that that would be my first move with the amp.

Thanks man. Yeah it just got back from a local tech. Power cord was updated to the 3 prong, it was re cap'd, re tubed and the output transformer was re wound. Good to go!

Actually had some time on my hands yesterday so I gave the Mark II a bit of a makeover. Put some chicken head knobs like it would have had back in the day. Added a traynor badge and cleaned up the face plate, grill cloth and tolex. Overall I'm pretty happy with it now.

keep in mind that the speaker jacks on some traynors were wired in series. if you plug an 8 ohm cab in the speaker out and another in the ext , the amp will see a 16ohm load not 4.

When I was in high school, early 70s the bass player we had replaced his Fender Bassman head with the Traynor (what a difference) always loved those heads.

I played through one of those amps at a rehearsal studio into an Ampeg 1x15 cab.... fell in love instantly. came back on another date and it was gone.. sad
