NAD: Aggie TH 500

After I bought an Ampeg V4Bh in december, my SVT 3pro was just gathering dust. I decided to sell it and get a nice and light backup amp, and went with Aguilar TH500 (for reference, I also tried the Markbas F1, the SWR headlite and the TC RH450, but neither of those felt right to me. I couldn't get to try the Aguilar anywhere around, so I had to order it online).

It arrived on monday, and I got to use it on band rehearsel last evening. I can't believe how such a small amp can produce such awesome sound, it's ridiculous. I find the tone to be more modern than the Ampegs, but it still has some warm, old-school qualities as well, so there is some common ground to be found between the two. It was easy to dial in 'my' tone and just rock out, and it even got the thumbs up from my guitarist, he was extremely jealous of the size/awesomeness ratio this amp packs.

plus, there were like eight Aguilar stickers in the package, how awesome is that? :p

I'd enjoy hearing one of these. I was never a big fan of the Aguilar amp tone, but now that I'm playing a P Bass more often, that thick, chewy upper bass/lower mid voicing is kind of interesting to me, and the ability to get some of that warmth without the hassle of tubes. Eeven a few tubes in the preamp makes me nervous when my Streamliner goes into an equipment van (not a big deal of course, but simplicity is wonderful if you can get a tone that works).

MIght have to just order one up for the heck of it when Musician's Friend runs their next sale. I can always send it back.

Enjoy!
