I while back I got this old Peavey Standard head. Brought it home and plugged it in to my Peavey 410 cab, played for about 20 minutes before the head died with a loud pop. I thought I had killed it. Disappointed...
I continued to use the Peavey 410 cab together with a Peavey Tour 700 head, but the other day the cab started farting under heavy load. I decided a new, bigger cab was in order. Said and done, I found a used Ampeg 810 cab a couple of hours drive away. I got a friend to help me go and collect it.
When we got back and loaded the cab into my rehearsal space my friend noticed the Standard head standing in a corner. I explained what happened to it, he pulls out a screwdriver and offers to take a look. 15 minutes and a changed internal fuse later the head lives again.
Now I got this really badass rig that sound frekkin awesome! The Peavey head really sings through the Ampeg cab, and overdrives in just the right way. 130 old Peavey watts is way louder than 700 new Peavey watts in the Tour-head, and the Ampeg can handle gobs of power and put out as much punch I will ever need without even breaking a sweat. Tomorrow night is rehearsal night, and I can't wait!
