NAD!! Ampeg V4B! Pics!

I had an ST42 'Colossus' 2x15 cab at one point. You think your V4B cab is heavy? The only thing stopping the Colossus from destroying the SVT cab is the fact that the SVT has 8 speakers. I sold that thing as fast as possible (got it in a package deal, it was a beautiful cab but literally 20% bigger than my B25B)

I gigged my V4B last night...filled the room with lovely bottom and never even had it all the way up to 10 o'clock on the volume.

I have one - and in no way could it ever be considered "manageable"!
It makes an 8x10 fridge seem downright petite.

I've played a lot of gigs with a V4-B and a little Bag End 1x15. I've done a couple with a Sunn 2000S (even wider than the V4-B) and a Berg HT112ER.... so I fear no hangover

I wasn't familiar with the ST42 Colossus - A quick look around looks like it was a SS portaflex with a 4x12... and weighed 140 lbs. The V4-B cab whips that easily - without an amp head.

Nope, no pics...I had it for about 3 months and sold it a year ago. It was, if I remember correctly, slightlythinner than my B25B but taller and wider. I've never owned a V4B...but weight surely depends on number of speakers, and if those speakers have massive ceramic magnets.

Now that I think about it the Colossus may have had 12's and not 15's...it definitely weighed around 150 lbs. They didn't call it "Colossus" for nothin'

I played with a guitarist who had a colossus in high school...around 40 years ago. It was a solid state fliptop with 4 12" altecs.

The V4-B is a folded horn cab. Weighs in around 180 IIRC.

So should I be looking for a V4B cab or a V4 cab? The only ones I can find are V4s...which I would have to replace all of the speakers...take the 'deal' out of any cab I could find. I might just sack up and try to find a reasonably priced beat up 810 so I can get it on the cheap and re-tolex and re-grill cloth it to match the V4B head. I can deal with 3/4"...wouldn't be that noticeable split in half.

If you patiently surf ebay you can get a SVT 8x10 very cheap. The key is waiting for one that is nearby that you can pick up - local pickups for heavy stuff on ebay is a gold mine, because likely there aren't many people near you vying for one at the same time as you and the people who need it shipped need to pay $150 extra.

I dont hardly take out my squareback only because it doesnt tilt and roll, like towel bar cabs.

Don is making me a 2x15/2x6 cab for my V4b. 27 inches wide to match the head. He'll build it to look just like an old ampeg cab, and his prices are super reasonable.

Well, I finally found one gutted, got it, rebuilt it with original Altec 421A's, and now I have no clue what to do with it. Sounds incredible, but 180 pounds for a 2x15 is ridiculous to move around. I guess I'll just keep it and eventually use it as a coffin at this point.

Nice. Use it the same way I use mine - as a really nice display perch for your V4-B head until you're ready to be buried in it (great idea BTW...)

S Monkey, I'd go for the flatback as well. Actually, I'd go for an NV610 if you can swing a bit more $$$. It's a foot shorter, 40 pounds lighter than an 8x10, and sounds incredible.
