NAD: Bugera Veyron BV1001t (I know, I know...)

20220309_120010.jpg

I run my Veyron into Phil Jones Bass cabs. I have been so totally happy with the tone, grit and power that I stopped having GAS.

I just got a Hartke Hydrive HX410 Neo 8ohm 1000w rms cabinet. I also grabbed a Hydrive HD112. I noticed these cabs really cut through a mix.
The M has more EQ options? The T has tube pre so is it warmer? M or T for my Hartke?
🙏🏻😊

I've now actually owned both the T and M, and still have the M. I use the M as a power amp with an Ampeg SGT-DI as a pre-amp run into the effects return.

I've read a number of comments about the M that it is bright, and I've also heard that about the Hartke cabinets as well, so it may be too much in the higher frequencies for you.

The M is a steal now at Sweetwater for $269 new, so, if you like the pre-amp, terrific. If not, it's a cheap power amp to use with a preamp of your choosing. I'd say it would be worth a try and if you don't like it, it should be an easy return.

The T sounded good to me when I had it, but I thought it was a bit tonally limited; the tube pre was good, but it mostly sounded the same to me regardless of EQ. I ended up getting a TC Electronic BH-800 and traded the Bugera T away after that. Depending on my tonal needs now, I alternate between the BH-800, with its built in effects (Tone Print), and the SGT-DI pre /Bugera M power combination into a pair of Ampeg SVT-210AVs, if I'm not going direct into the PA.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
I'm a luthier and usually build my own basses, but I got rearend and my neck got pretty trashed, so I found an Ibanez MS1005 and the Barts pickups weren't my cup of tea. So I pulled them and put in a pair of Nordstrand Zen blades. I left the Ibanez preamp in but modified it and run it at 18v.
Bass weighs 7.25lbs compared to my other basses at around 15lbs. I run DR stainless Steel Dragon skin Plus. When I play live, it's with IEMs since 1998. My DI is Two notes Le Bass. All of this meets my tonal goals. But I need to be backline ready for sit ins since I've recently shut our band down.

Given what you've described, and that you already have a tube preamp, I'd go with the M and run the Le Bass into it as a pre if/when you need it. The Le Bass should be able to help tame the Hartke cabs as needed.

Of note, which you probably already know from this thread, but the actual output of the Bugera amps is more like 700 to 750 watts in comparison to other brands ratings/measurements. Still plenty of power to get you in trouble!

I'm at my daughter's house visiting and this is where this new rig is. And the Le Bass is at home 2,000 miles away. So this is a rig for when I get a chance to sit in. I also have the Hartke Hydrive HD112. I was so impressed with it that when the 410 came up for an unheard of deal, I grabbed it.
I'm in talks with my Sweetwater sales agent and he was saying Bugera hmmm. 🤔 😂
Sounds like good bang for the buck and I won't be using that much, but that could change. 😂
And I'm looking at the new Two Notes Revolt Bass Pre. It's funny when you got GAS I'm looking at everything and videos and reviews driving myself nuts. 😝

You seem to have difficulties recognizing and accepting good advice… why bother ask questions?
I do not believe you have given me advice, except for me not to choose the Bugera that reverse engineered one of your designs. So please tell me what offering you would choose to run the Hartke Hydrive HX410 and or the Hydrive HD112.
And why. Let's keep in mind that I believe you've never asked what my tonal goals are or music styles I'd be performing/playing. According to your above statement, apparently I'm having difficulties recognizing and accepting good advice. So please sum it up for me. Just to note, I enjoy checking out all avenues before I make a decision/purchase. I enjoy sifting through advice and determining what looks to be good advice and what looks like not very good advice.
Apparently you are already in the know, yet I haven't gotten there yet. So please….. bring me home. 🙏🏻😊

You asked again and again about power and power handling, yet don't seem to be understanding or accepting the similar answers given to you by multiple members.

I never said this thread, may I remind you of your other parallel thread?

Hmmm 🤔 are you here to torment or to help?
I know what your strengths are, very evident indeed. I asked you some questions to bring it home for me, and please may I remind you that you haven't. I'm not here to get pissy/head butting with members. I'm looking for real world experience/opinions. Thank you 🙏🏻😊

That's the point, the attempts to help have been ignored and your questions were indeed answered. That's as much "bringing it home" as it gets.

So I pulled the trigger. I decided to try the Bugera mosfet model instead of the tube model and put that $175 difference towards the Two Notes Revolt Preamp. I've been so impressed with the Two Notes Le Bass that this was the decision I made. Yes, some say the Bugera is a throwaway, but this is for a rig that is 2,000 miles from my house and will be at my daughter's house. Her husband use to play in a touring metal band, so the Two Notes Revolt will surprise him and his other previous band mates when we have a session. So this is the chain:

Ibanez EHB1005MS with modified preamp to 18v and Nordstrom Zen Blades with DR Dragon Skin Plus Stainless Strings ➡️ Two Notes Revolt ➡️ Bugera MOSFET ➡️Hartke Hydrive HX410 Neo cabinet.

Also have a Hartke Hydrive HD112 with dual voice coils. I may keep my eyes open for another to stack for a different sound/thing. 😂

For simplicity I was thinking Tube Bugera, but then I looked at pricing and thought the M has more mid freq selection, which maybe a plus, and to put the difference in money into the Revolt preamp just made sense as I know what the Le Bass sound like, which I love. Also, if the Bugera doesn't pan out, then I can just grab a QSC or Crown and I've got the Two Notes Revolt as a pre. 🙏🏻😊

Sounds like a good plan. I suspect the Bugera will meet your needs in this scenario, but if not, I'm sure the QSC or Crown will. Good luck!

Keep in mind that the Bugera will be providing approx 325 - 375 ish watts max power to your HX410 (it is an 8 Ohm cab), which should be really loud (about 124db spl at 1 meter, assuming 99db @1w/1m sensitivity of the cabinet). While a Crown XTi1002, for instance, could push 1000 watts at 8 ohms (in bridged mode). That would likely be stupid loud (about 129db at 1 meter, assuming 99db sensitivity of the cabinet).

I think I got all the math and details right on that; reference links below...

Yes the 4x10 is 8 ohms. The Hartke Hydrive HD112 is 4 or 8. Getting another might be nice to try in a stack as they say that the HD series is warmer sounding than the HX410. Nonetheless, the 410 should be good with 300ish watts I'm hoping as these Hartke cabinets sound mid forward. Bugera and Two Notes arrive Monday. And not sure when the HX410 arrives, I purchased that on marketplace near where a friend lives(over 100 miles away) He will be closer to me when he visits his family for Christmas. So nice of him to pick it up for me.

I bought mine a few weeks back (£289, new!) and also couldn't believe the out-if-the-box tone from a flat EQ: rich, deep and very clean. I bought it as a cheap but powerful backup for my Ashdown ABM-600 2-VU rack so it's unlikely to see action at a live gig any time soon, but awesome for rehearsals and, like another post in this thread, had my bandmates eyebrows up. I to can't believe the 2k rating, so 700W into 4ohms sounds about right. The 3 12AX7s give a really warm, rich feel to whole thing, and I have to say the on-board compressor isn't bad either, although my Origin Cali76 isn't going away any time soon. On the whole, astonishing value for money.
