Short story long, I bought the wtdi 10+ years ago, I loved the tone. 2018 I decided I needed a "legit" gigging back up amp. Even then you couldn't get much for my budget of 300 bux. I gambled on GC on a wt400. I didn't play it much till covid and I will admit, it hums, it has a loud fan, but I truly love the tone. I went from the pedal to the amp, I was amazed at how they both have such the same tone! Good stuff

I bought an Eden WT500/800 (upgraded from 500-watts rms bridged to 800-watts) from Dave Nordschow back in 2010 after he left Eden and founded DNA. I'd previously been using an Eden Nemesis RS400 (400-watts rms into 4Ω. That Nemesis line didn't have the hybrid preamp but an FET front end instead. Sound was still clean, clear, and articulate with a nicely focused bottom end, but didn't have the warmth that his "gold-face" amps did. So when I bought it I compared them and definitely the WT amps have a warm sound that the Nemesis amps did not. When I bought my WTDI I didn't really expect it to have the warmth that the hybrid preamp does, but it absolutely did. Back in about 2018 I bought an Eden TN-226 class D amp (225-watts into 4Ω) specifically for a small venue where we played over 40-times a year. Although it didn't have a tube in the preamp either, it sounded just as warm as my big Eden amp.

The reason for that is that both the WTDI and the Eden Terra Nova amps use a "Golden Ear chip" (THAT-4301) that among other things emulates tube warmth very nicely. I was really pleased with it. That WTDI is basically the same preamp that the Eden WT 330, 390, and 405 use. Those don't have the hybrid preamps either, but use the Golden Ear Chip for the warmth that Eden is known for.

I ended up using my WTDI at a pro recording studio in Seattle in 2019 because there was too much bleed over between the bass and drums. They wanted me to go direct to the board and they wanted me to use their generic DI. I insisted on using my WTDI. I toggled the mids to low-mids at 500Hz and ran the rest of the EQ flat, the Enhance off, and the compressor off. At the end of the 3-hours session both the sound engineer and the owner of the studio came out of the control room to see what I was using that sounded so good.

I had a WT-400 Montrose Mn. made circa 1996. It was flawless, but I defer to your knowledge on Chinese versions and agree that Nemesis had a good and reputation.
I liked their 15" combo amp very much. So, I stand corrected.

Virtually all of the Montrose ones were great and the WT400 was stellar. It also was not ever made in China. But the WT550 and WT800C were and that solved a multitude of problems when those arrived.

Hello, I have a WT330 that looks like it's been into. I say that because when replacing the HF fuse I see the cabinet is wired as a two ohm load. All speakers are parallel and the back says 4 ohm minimum. Do you happen to have a proper cabinet wiring diagram/schematic? No worries about sending a DM (Direct Message), this works fine. I believe there's some minimum number of posts you have to make before you can DM a TalkBass member. The only schematic that I have is for the WT500,WT600, and WT800 amps. The WT800 is the A model. When Marshall bought Eden, they put the Kabosh on providing schematics. You had to be an Eden Authorized Tech to get one. So I don't have that. However, Armin (@Bassmann1968), who was the electronics guru on the Eden Forum may very well have one and can answer your questions if you drop him a DM. Or if we're lucky, he'll see this post and just answer it for you.

An interesting thing about the WT330 is that it was sold up until 2005 with the power listed as 330-watts rms into 4Ω. However in 2005, they changed the manual and put the WT330, WT390, and WT405 all inside that same manual. That's because they all had the same preamp and only the power sections were different. They also shared the same power section but had different power supplies. In the 2003 user's manual it lists the power as 200-watts into 8Ω, and 330-watts into 4Ω. In the June 2005 manual it lists it as 200-watts into 8Ω, 330-watts into 4Ω, and 420-watts into 2Ω. The WT405 was the last iteration of those WT330,390, and 405 models and it came out in 2004. It may very well be that when they made the WT405 model 2Ω capable they did the same with the WT330 and 390, before they updated and consolidated the manual in 2005.

And, to further confuse things, if I recall correctly, they did offer power upgrades on both the WT330 and WT405 to the same power as the WT405 came with standard. Your best bet on figuring this one out is to contact Armin @Bassmann1968. He can get into the weeds with you about the wiring and values of the various components used in building it.

I had two WT330s, both said 4 ohm minimum, but I was told (on the old Eden forum) that they would both be fine at 2 ohms, and I used them at 2 ohms for about a dozen years with no issues.

Sweet @CascadeBass. That's a great amp. If it's 2008, yours should be the "B" model with the higher power available at 2Ω. Originally they were 550-watts into 4Ω and 620-watts into 2Ω, but in 2005 that was improved from 620-watts into 2Ω up to 750-watts into 2Ω. I've attached a owner's manual for you if you don't already have one. If you haven't used Eden amps before, pay particular attention to the section "Initial Setup" on page 9 especially to the section on the same page titled "Setting Your Level". Proper setting of the gain to match your bass is essential to the Eden sound and that will get you the clearest, cleanest, and loudest sound from that amp. It's a Great amp! Enjoy!

Yes, exactly! Those quick-start manuals that Marshall put out with about 7 languages in those few pages is almost worthless. When Marshall sent me a copy of the new manuals they were putting out, I pointed out that the "how to set your level" info was integral into getting the best sound out of Eden amps. Their answer was, "Oh well, this is what is at the printer, so that's what we're doing."
