Yep, the Montrose ones were excellent! Chinese, not so much.
Actually the Montrose ones were excellent. Then David sold Eden although he still ran it until 2009. USM bought it and after David left, moved manufacturing to Illinois (Mundelein - Chicago area). Most of the techs from Montrose found other jobs instead of moving to the Chicago area, and then suddenly a whole slew of Eden gear was DOA at dealers. Eden replaced a lot of amps. The move to the China facility was actually a good move because that factory in China had been making the Eden Nemesis amps for over a decade and never had a problem with them. I was one of the active monitors on the Eden forum and anytime there was a problem with any of it, we heard about it, which was good. Never heard a bad thing about any Nemesis amp, plus I still own an Eden Nemesis RS400 (was my first Eden amp) that I bought in 2008. So it was pretty simple matter to have them start making the Gold-faced WT amps there and THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM! Many of the made in Mundelein amps were just fine, but dead serious, if it came to looking for the most reliable Eden amps, I'd be looking at made in Montrose or China. I would still consider a Mundelein one too if a qualified tech went through it first.
Sweet @CascadeBass. That's a great amp. If it's 2008, yours should be the "B" model with the higher power available at 2Ω. Originally they were 550-watts into 4Ω and 620-watts into 2Ω, but in 2005 that was improved from 620-watts into 2Ω up to 750-watts into 2Ω. I've attached a owner's manual for you if you don't already have one. If you haven't used Eden amps before, pay particular attention to the section "Initial Setup" on page 9 especially to the section on the same page titled "Setting Your Level". Proper setting of the gain to match your bass is essential to the Eden sound and that will get you the clearest, cleanest, and loudest sound from that amp. It's a Great amp! Enjoy!
I had a WT-400 Montrose Mn. made circa 1996. It was flawless, but I defer to your knowledge on Chinese versions and agree that Nemesis had a good and reputation.
I liked their 15" combo amp very much. So, I stand corrected.
At first I thought "they're making Eden heads in Mexico now!?"...

I played the WT-550 for many years. No idea where mine was built though. After a good ten years, it started making crackling noises. Took it to two different techs, none could fix it, so I sold it for chump change and moved on to Mesa. I really loved the Eden tone, but I'd be hesitant to get another, and I am also very happy with the Mesa.
I’ve always liked classic Eden amps. The sound is detailed but warm. And there is something so classy about that brushed gold faceplate… it made me feel like making important creative music with an Eden amp.
Awesome find! Great amp and tone. I played a WT300 (with the upgrade offered at the time) for many years. Used that amp exclusively for live performance and recording.
Awesome little head! Best onboard preamp I’ve run across. Nice cab too. Should be a great sounding rig.
This is my fourth Eden head. I love them and yes--- best preamp around.
Regarding the Bergantino HT112, I'm hoping to sell my Schroeder and grab another Bergantino. Frankly, I'm eyeballing a Forte or B|Amp head as well.

Had a WT550 and absolutely loved it. I foolishly sold it to Jorg Schroeder years ago when I had two young babies at home and no gigs. I’d like to have another one, but my WT390 is perfect for my current needs.
Great find. Nemesis got me into Eden. I still have my NA-650 "None More Blue" head.

I still have my ‘90s WT-400, which isn’t as quiet as it used to be but is still reasonably quiet and I still love the way it sounds. If I stumbled upon a 550 in good shape at the right price I would definitely grab it.

I bought one a few years ago as a backup. I toured with a WT-500 and later a WT-800 with the D410T cab many years ago and they never let me down so I’ve got a soft spot for Eden gear. My WT550 had some issues but I got them taken care of at a local Austin shop. The tech worked some mojo to limit the transformer hum and also had to work on some damaged solder joints and other components etc. After a couple trips into the shop I decided to let it go because I just couldn’t trust it on a gig and didn’t want to have to put anymore $$ into it if something happened again. It did sound awesome though!
Eden's Montrose amps were great. There was a frustrating period of time that the Mundelein amps weren't and they couldn't seem to get their arms around. Then the made in China amps arrived and all was right with the world again.
There are a lot of bad made-in-China factories, but there are also good ones. I worked for a company that had a number of products manufactured there and you had to be sure you had someone from your company checking them out on a regular basis, they were very capable of making products if they made them to your specs using the methods you'd proscribed. And like I said there was already a factory in China who had made the Eden Nemesis series for over a decade, so they had the techs and the machinery needed to do the same for the WT series. If fixed a problem and quickly.
By the way @SJan3 just in case you hadn't already heard this before, that WT400 of yours is considered by many to be the best sounding amp that Eden ever made. We'd get one on the Eden Forum Classifieds every once in a while and typically within one or two days it would be sold and we'd get messages like, "Dang, I wasnt fast enough" or "I sold my WT400 three years ago and it was the worst mistake I ever made!" I think I still have a manual for your WT400 too, if you need or want it. I'll check and attach the pdf if I have it.
