NAD: Hartke LH500

It was an Ampeg SVT-410HLF (4ohm) cab.

Yeah, like I said, I am unfamiliar with this head, and didn't realize that to set the mids flat you dime the knob. We were playing a festival type show (Dallas Guitar Show), and I only had a few minutes to get up and start playing. I didn't fiddle with it too much...didn't have time. I would like a second shot with this head. Like I said I really wanted to like it, and tonally, it sounded good.

Middy - I just looked at the LH1000 Manual and I was EQ'd pretty close to the settings they show (in between the hifi and Twangy settings), so nothing too odd. I just didn't realize the mid control acted they way it does.

Eww. Yeah, the 410HLF is pretty boomy and scooped by itself. No wonder you couldn't hear yourself.

I set everything at noon usually, but I'm using a p bass and a sealed 810, so I already have plenty of mids. With a 410 HLF and/or a jazz bass I would be turning that mid pot up...

Yeah fish, a "flat" EQ for the LH amps is 2-10-2. You were losing a good chunk of volume with that setting. Some have complained that there aren't enough mids sometimes with this amp, especially depending on the cab used. I really enjoy mine but it's not for everyone. Hope you get another chance with one soon.

OK so I didn't have anything set flat...lol...I was at 1-noon-1...
It was one of those situations where It was like..."OK man, plug in and go!"...I thought noon was flat, I set it that way and thought I was bumping bass and treble slightly...but from the sounds of it, I was actually cutting everything...great...lol...

No sweat. I did the same thing when trying one out. Thought the amp sounded pretty thick with not much cut. Went home and looked it up and read about the EQ etc. Tried it again with the flat settings and it sounded much better.

tonally, I thought it sounded good with the settings I had...it was just not very loud...by dime'ing that Mid control, it sounds like you get much more volume out of that amp.

Is that how everyone runs their LH series heads? With the mid control dime'd?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I do...
I'm glad the 'cut' is available, 'cause some day you might encounter a room with a nasty resonance in the mids, and that'd be a quick way to dial it out if you didn't want to tinker with (or didn't have) other EQ options. Broadly, the mid is cut-only, treble and bass are boost-only...
