NAD: Traynor BM15C

I’ve finally had a chance to sit down with this amp and try a variety of instruments out on it. This amp truly excels at just about everything. My beloved 1979 Peavey T-40 sounds like it is made for this amp. My love it & hate it Epiphone Jack Casady? This combo would almost convince me to buy another Gibson product. Almost. My Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar sounds so smooth with this, though with the obnoxious bass boost rolled off on the bass.

I’ve also played my Ibanez 1806 Premium and Made in Japan SR 886 through it. Though it still sounds excellent, it’s clear to me that it struggles a little on that low B or A.

Overall, this is by far the best sounding Class D amp I’ve ever heard, hands down, and I will happily use it along side my ’72 V4B or my SWR SW750. It’s clean when it needs to be, and it’s got so much warmth I may not need my fireplace this winter.

Still, I have to take some points off. Aesthetically it is a gorgeous amp with a well built and finished enclosure. The look and feel of the combo is up there with the vintage Traynors. However, the controls on my specimen at least are incredibly disappointing. They feel like a $35 Behringer guitar pedal. The center detent on the EQ controls is challenging to find, the treble control is scratchy and requires twice the effort to move than the others, the master volume sounds dirty, and overall they feel wobbly, unattached, and fragile. That user interface is something that can certainly make or break something like this. If someone is looking at amps and they get hands on with this BM series with the fragile feeling controls, that's a bad first impression.

Still, wow what a sound and overall killer amplifier. I'd give it a 10/10 but the controls really fail it here so it's a 9/10.
