MTD Saratoga 5 - Aguilar Tone Hammer - Peavey IPR 1600 - Markbass Traveler 121h. I got the peavey last week and the markbass just today. I've had it for a total of about an hour and it's awesome. Been recording with the tone hammer for a little over a year. Can't wait to add some effects and another 121h.

So far this is a really great setup. Really transparent and clear when needed, and between the onboard bart pre and the tone hammer I can get a nice range of sounds. Next on the list are some pedals. A compressor, reverb, and possibly tremolo. Working towards a very nice solo bass rig.

Finding this cabinet to be just a touch "mid present". My ideal cab would be something as flat as my studio monitors, though I'm starting to realize that I'm about as close as I'm going to get in this price range. Being a solo player I don't need to cut through a mix or cushion a band. Going for that "direct to board" tone. I can EQ it with the Tone Hammer to my liking, but looking for something "ideal".

I got this cab for $456 shipped from MF after a coupon code and taxes and whatnot. Can anyone recommened a comparable or better "flat", "transparent", or "versatile" cab for that price or less? I've looked at the AK TC 112, and EA CXL-112 L, but they seem to be out of my budget. Unfortunately this cab already stretched a stretched budget.

I might look at building a fEARful 12/6 with the Alpha mid option (Or the 18 sound with padding for single cab use, unpad to combine with a 12sub). The 12/6 is much flatter than a lot of commercial cabs. Yeah you would have to DIY to meet your budget, but it could be done. With the IPR to drive it you could also push that cab to crazy volumes if wanted.
