Didn't realize exactly who James Jamerson was, but in looking, I know most of the songs he was involved in very well, of course. He's definitely gotta be on any list of great bass players, P or otherwise.

I revisited The Damned`s machine gun etiquette album yesterday and it sounds as fresh if not fresher than ever, the energy is amazing, pure `loud and proud` rock n roll at its best IMO
I would recommend it to any rock fan as part of their collection, its just awesome

In the late 60s, I was drawn to Jim Fielder of Blood, Sweat & Tears, a very erudite band. Jack Bruce, Jamie Jamerson and Chris Squire were other worthy wielders of the plank. I have not noticed anyone mention Stanley Clarke or Jaco Pastorius and others of that school yet. I knew a couple of excellent bassists here in U.K. in the 70s. Lez Hurdle, bass man on Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel started off on cornet in the same Brass Band that I did here in rural Berkshire!!! Steve Bingham joined the Foundations, Ronnie Lane and Geno Washington - currently in Slim Chance. Solid guys. There are many around the world that are somewhat unsung. Who looks up Polish or Romanian bass men? Personality can outweigh ability and so those celebrities who play bass fare better commercially than undiscovered virtuosi. I shall now let you discover some other greats!!!
