To be cliche, James Jamerson (cliche, but I mean it)
Greg Ridley of Humble Pie - a great bassist and vocalist. For me, he set the standard for deep, round tone. (P-Bass with dual Acoustic 361 stacks). His P-Bass sold at auction in 2007 for $39k. Here's pics of the beautiful bass. Invalid Link Removed

I too am a fan of Mars Cowling. Also Marco Mendoza.
Both of whom worked extensively with one of my most favorite drummers, Tommy Aldridge. I often wonder do I like Mars & Marcos' work so much because of Tommy or do I like Tommy because of Marco & Mars? :D

Greg Ridley was just pure Rock and Roll, and with wildman Steve marriott as your front guys thaose guys ooooozzzzzzzeeeedddd Rock Funk!!!
