• The Pentatonic Minor scale as a huge part of the stock bass line, in much the same way as "My Girl"
• The same part played over different chords, also in the same way as "My Girl" - hopefully over the 2, 3, and 6 chords (or minor 1, 4, 5 if you prefer)
• "Sunshine Of Your Love" is a great example, but I want something else - hopefully as well-known
• This bass line must be easy enough for a first-year student to be able to handle.

Heartbreaker by Led Zeppelin (the minor blues scale without the b7). I can think of many other songs that use the minor pentatonic, but they just seem to use that scale over one chord -- Clapton's I Shot the Sheriff, Led Zeppelin's The Ocean, The Beatles Birthday, etc. Zeppelin and Sabboth used the scale quite a bit, but I can't come up with any more right now.
