Now now, lets not bash on the seven string basses, you know who might show up, ( cough turner cough), but honestly, the ibanez seven string was very poorly made. the string spacing was so close together that i couldn't play single note runs on it without bumping athe other strings. truely terrible, and over $2000 to boot.
It is meant to be played with a pick.

Plus, people play Guitars fingerstyle all the time

hi smash ! thanks for the kind words on the pic of me with jorg;'s brubaker .

cool!

alan .

oh ps the benavente i was walking around with last last namm ( 2008 ) i didnt buy at the show, i flew it with me in from miami fl ... its my main bass. scb 6

i bought IT back in 2007 early, it was finished in october. 2007 . i flew with it jan 2008 , but in 2009 namm i DID not bring it with me, it sat home chilling.

thanks!

I'll be making the trip down sometime after March for sure.

sorry for jumping in late to the party but emm, ya gotta do it!!

the only time I've had the opportunity to play a Citron was at NAMM '08 and I was able to tryout the red Swallow that, I believe, is over now at Luthier's Access Group.

even with all of the noise and hoopla of NAMM going on, playing that bass was much akin to an OBE for me. I honestly was having a hard time keeping it together as I was playing it. The 'punch'/immediacy of an electric but the notes blossomed like an upright.... truly worth any and all time/fuel costs that you have to head over to Harvey's shop if you can. If I lived anywhere close I think I'd set up camp in a corner of the property :hiding:

:D

truly an overlooked/unappreciated luthier of our time.

Thanks for letting me know of your experience. I've been interested in Harvey's basses for years now and have never had the opportunity to get my hands on one. I'm heading down to Long Island next month anyhow (going to be an uncle for the first time!) so I figured I'd take a detour. I'm really excited to check them out. I think the only thing that will stop me from ordering a bass on the spot will be the money. If Harvey can build me what I'm looking for then I'll make it happen though.

Harveys AE5 was the best sounding bass I played at this years show. You could cop some real nice uprighty sounds with it. I can totally see using that bass in my countryish band. I really liked his jazzes too....pretty heavy though even with the chambering. But they sounded real nice.

He was actually in a pretty good spot to try stuff as there werent really any other booths around him in that hallway.

I just wanted to come back in and say that I stopped by Harvey Citron's place yesterday. Not only is he the most gracious host, he's also building some of the best instruments out there. I feel that I've found my dream instrument in the AE series. It's the first time that I played a bass that was so close to what I've been imagining for the past few years. It's like he crawled into my head and saw what I was dreaming up. I was in heaven.

As to his Jazz basses....those were incredible. They were indeed heavy, but when asked about that he said that it was just to build the prototypes. That won't be the case normally....they were incredible. I love Harvey's pickups as well...great designs.

Anyhow, I'm really excited about working with Harvey in the future.

MORE BEE PICTURES

I'll stick with my Stick.

"Fenders are as boring as the people who play them"? I'd like to be as boring as Jaco then. or maybe you meant it like, you're only as exciting as the music you play. I'm sure there are tons of boring and bored musicians out there playing Fenders, in fact I know there are, but the same can be said of other instrument maker's gear.

wtfwarwick? I thought it was the sound of wood....not metal...

Wow, that's the first warwick I've ever wanted to play.

is it? ah. I'm new here. should I ignore things beyond a certain freshness date?
Not if you have fresh relevant content to offer, then it's ok to revive an old thread... but in this case, since this is an annual event, it probably would've been best to find the threads for the most recent NAMM.

Agreed.
