I’ve owned a lot of basses over the last 40yrs. I’ve owned so many styles with so many different p/u setups, neck setups, different woods even tried an acrylic bass once. Never had one that I really got the playability and sound that I’m looking for.
I had 1 bass that for some reason I keep comparing everything to in sound, it was a Peavy T-40 natural. Though you had to have a stool if you were going to play for more than 45min sets. Unless you were the hulk.
The best playing bass I’ve always compared everything else too is a custom shop Spector Design. Then I found this old cheap bass hanging in a small hole in the wall shop. It wasn’t playable, it had an early jazz look to it, natural finish. I traded for it, got it home than went to work. Neck was sprung and I didn’t want to change it. I built a makeshift steam box, put it in over night. Next morning I mounted it on the body and hung it up for 2 days. When dried I set it up, redid the wire connections, used the original mini humbuckers. This bass has so much thump and headroom, the action is so low and smooth. And when playing thru my Lab Series L2 with an Eminence speaker, the sound is incredible. The bass is an ‘83 Hondo2. I do own other basses, looking at a new MM now. This is a bass you can’t put down nor can you keep from smiling when playing this bass. It’s a bass that I’m not ashamed to take anywhere and play in front of anyone. I know a lot of you will disagree, and , that’s fine. I’m just saying that sometimes it’s not the amount of money spent as it is the time and effort you put into it.

Godin has a really nice jazz that sounds and plays Awesome!! At the Nashville show this year. Out of all the basses I played that is the bass I’m most impressed with. I have a ‘63 and ‘64 jazz and the Godin plays and sounds as good or better than any of my basses. If I were to buy new that’s the only way I’d go.
